Resumen del Editor

Once human but now immortal, Supreme Commander Lord Tanaros fled the realm of Men and chose darkness when he killed his adulterous wife and his liege king who cuckolded him.

A thousand years have passed in service to his master, the dark god Satoris. The world view Satoris as Evil Prime and the name of Tanaros is the byword for treachery. The races have united in their quest to rid the world of the Dark God and his minions. The key to the prophecy is the beautiful Elvish princess Cerelinde - and Satoris has captured her.

Yet not all tales told are true and evil may have another face.

Satoris refuses to act like the monster that he is made out to be for he recognizes in Cerelinde a spark of the love that he once bore for his fellow gods. But this spark of light might prove to be a danger to Satoris...and a greater danger for Tanaros and all that he holds dear.

For Cerelinde might remind him that the heart that he willed to iron an eon ago is still very much mortal.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Carey's sensual, often erotically charged prose is reminiscent of the best efforts of Tanith Lee and Anne Rice.” (Library Journal)

All things must be as they must

I'm a hardcore Carey fan. I've read and reread the Kishiel series more times than I can count. it was the series that brought me out of my decade long reading hiatus. Carey is so incredible at building incredible worlds with intricate, winding tales filled with deep DEEP lore that could make your head spin. This series is like nothing I've ever read. It's like Tolkien and Martin smashed their brains together and created a monster of a world that I couldn't bear to tear myself from. I listened to both books within a week. Brought my phone into the shower, annoyed my husband with it playing softly at night while he slept, and immediately started back up again as soon as I woke up. I dreamt that I saw Ushahin followed by a cloud of ravens. There's such powerful imagery in Carey's storytelling, you'll be hard pressed to be able to think of anything else while you're deep into her stories.

Spoilers beyond this point:

I mean come on, it's the title of the book. I should have known this was how it would all play out. Life after life lost, the prophecy constantly repeated, yet at every turn I still had this overwhelming hope and desire that it wouldn't turn out that way. I kept hoping that Cerelinde would fall in love with Tanaros and that things would be different. And yet... All things must be as they must.
