The dramatic story of an X-wing pilot on the razor’s edge between the hero he once was and the power he could have—if he’s willing to embrace the Dark Side

Corran Horn was an officer in the Corellian Security Force before casting his lot with the New Republic. As the grandson of a legendary Jedi hero, he has latent Force powers that have yet to be developed. But he has managed to distinguish himself with Rogue Squadron, the X-wing fighter force that has become the scourge of the Empire and of the pirates that prey on Republic shipping.

When his wife, Mirax, vanishes on a covert mission for the New Republic, Corran vows to find her. He begins Jedi training at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi academy, hoping to develop his untapped powers. But as Corran grows dissatisfied with the Jedi master’s methods, he chooses to break with the academy before his training is finished.

Now Corran is on his own. Using his undercover experience, he must infiltrate, sabotage, and destroy a ruthless organization in order to find his wife. But to succeed, Corran will have to come to terms with his Jedi heritage—and make a terrible choice: surrender to the Dark Side . . . or die.

One of my favorite SW novels. But lacks character

One of my favorite reads. But I disagree with many of the voice interpretations. Many of the voices sound too young for their characters.

One of the best of the old EU!

It has been about a decade since my last run through I Jedi, and while I remembered placing it quite highly among the old EU, it seems to have aged well and perhaps appeals even more to me now that I'm at a different phase in life.

The first person narrative, which is more common to pulp westerns and young adult stuff, seems like an odd way to write a Star Wars story, but I really think it works. Corran comes off as a unique character, with likes, dislikes, quirks, ambitions and real problems that real people have, such as impending fatherhood and balancing homelife and career. Sticking with a single protagonist also saves the book from the old EU's worst feature; an obligatory inclusion of more legacy characters in C or D plots that don't add much to the tale.

As a fan of Anderson's Jedi Academy series, I don't mind saying that this was perhaps a better presentation of much of the same material. Even though a retelling of a tale from a different character's POV smacks somewhat of fan fiction.

The descriptions of the Jedi training process were really enjoyable, and the extrapolation upon the light and dark side of the universe being present in all moral choices is, to my mind, hitting the core of what Star Wars is supposed to be about.

Thompson's reading was as per usual, the best presentation of the SW lore you can ask for. The only downside was Elogoss' really loud snuffling noise preceding his dialogue. It sounded identical to my dog snuffling at the bottom of a door he's shut out from, and I don't remember Elogoss speaking like that in the Hand of Thrawn books.

All in all, a lengthy but highly enjoyable Star Wars adventure. Highly recommended.

Finally We Have This Book Unabridged

a mainstay of the old Expanded Universe, and after decades of only having a severely truncated version, we finally have I, Jedi in all its glory, and narrated by Marc Thompson no less! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the X-Wing novels, as it is a continuation of the adventures of Cortana Horn.

I like the inclusion of old star war characters and the unforced additions of new ones

Liked the story...it muttered through a few slow spots which made me rewind. However overall loved the story and the depiction was outstanding. Production is spot on

Another good legends book for the collection

The book was well written and gives good insight of the new republics early days. As always Mark Thompson is an absolute beast of a narrator when it comes to Star Wars novels!

A testament to the EU superiority!

I am absolutely in love with this novel. It shows the beginning of Luke's New Jedi Order, with a future that it DESERVES. Lore tie-ins from the the Tales of the Jedi comics further expresses how rich and organized the Expanded Universe really was, and elevates the immersiveness of the universe. Fantastic new characters with depth that Disney wishes they could convey. Corran Horn is easily one of the coolest and realest EU characters. Nothing but praise for another stellar Marc Thompson narration. If it isn't this man or Johnathan Davis, it just won't be the same!

Would love to see who would play him

The hero’s journey of one of my favorite characters from the expanded universe! A wonderful use of the soundtrack and the signature sound effects gave the book the epic feel of the movies. And of course, the narrator was first rate; truly the voice of the Star Wars Legends Audiobooks. I hope they make audiobooks for Tales of the Empire as well as the other anthologies. As a matter of fact, just do ALL the books!

A classic

Perhaps one of the best of the original EU. Stories I jedi encapsulates what it means to be a jedi in the new Jedi Order under Luke Skywalker, a fantastic read. From a unique perspective, one that any avid star wars fan will find enjoyable
