Resumen del Editor

Universally acclaimed, rapturously reviewed, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography, and an instant New York Times best seller, Chanel Miller's breathtaking memoir "gives readers the privilege of knowing her not just as Emily Doe, but as Chanel Miller the writer, the artist, the survivor, the fighter" (The Wrap).

"I opened Know My Name with the intention to bear witness to the story of a survivor. Instead, I found myself falling into the hands of one of the great writers and thinkers of our time. Chanel Miller is a philosopher, a cultural critic, a deep observer, a writer's writer, a true artist. I could not put this phenomenal book down." (Glennon Doyle, number one New York Times best-selling author of Love Warrior and Untamed)

"Know My Name is a gut-punch, and in the end, somehow, also blessedly hopeful." (Washington Post)

She was known to the world as Emily Doe when she stunned millions with a letter. Brock Turner had been sentenced to just six months in county jail after he was found sexually assaulting her on Stanford's campus. Her victim impact statement was posted on BuzzFeed, where it instantly went viral - viewed by 11 million people within four days, it was translated globally and read on the floor of Congress; it inspired changes in California law and the recall of the judge in the case. Thousands wrote to say that she had given them the courage to share their own experiences of assault for the first time.

Now, she reclaims her identity to tell her story of trauma, transcendence, and the power of words. It was the perfect case, in many ways - there were eyewitnesses, Turner ran away, physical evidence was immediately secured. But her struggles with isolation and shame during the aftermath and the trial reveal the oppression victims face in even the best-case scenarios. Her story illuminates a culture biased to protect perpetrators, indicts a criminal justice system designed to fail the most vulnerable, and, ultimately, shines with the courage required to move through suffering and live a full and beautiful life.

Know My Name will forever transform the way we think about sexual assault, challenging our beliefs about what is acceptable and speaking truth to the tumultuous reality of healing. It also introduces listeners to an extraordinary writer, one whose words have already changed our world. Entwining pain, resilience, and humor, this memoir will stand as a modern classic.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Know My Name marks the debut of a gifted young writer. Miller's words are purpose. They are maps. And she is a treasure who has prevailed." (The New York Times)

The memoir, as an art form, is one of the most difficult and complex to pull off. That’s why these titles are so impressive: not only are they excellent works in their own right, but they’ve achieved cultural acclaim, resonating with listeners of different ages, genders, races, religions, and identities. Often narrated by the authors themselves, these audiobooks allow listeners to be immersed in each story and feel all of the raw and unfiltered emotion that comes with them.

Just, thank you.

To Chanel Miller:

I cannot properly review your book at the moment. It's powerful. It's brutal. It's necessary. It's hard. It's raw. But you know all this. You must know this. Your writing is perfect. Your own voice is brilliant.

I ugly cried and loudly sobbed through the last third of your book. It hurt. It ripped open old wounds and triggered a panic attack at one point. There is so much that I can't bring myself talk about, but your words helped. Thank you. Just, thank you.

Powerful

This. This is real. Not a fluffy account of how abuse and drs and lawyers and judges appear. These are actual facts about our broken system. Everyone needs to read this book.

I am with you Chanel!

Devastating. Beautiful.

This was one of the most moving memoirs I’ve ever read. It was beautiful written, and devastatingly enlightening. It was vulnerable and sincere, and I cried several times. I could not recommend this book more strongly, and I particularly recommend the audiobook, which is read by Chanel. It adds another layer of understanding to her story, as you listen to her voice and her hurt. She is not a victim defined by what this man did to her, she is a strong, eloquent, impassioned writer with a voice that has moved millions.

Raw, honest, and real.

Chanel, I rarely write reviews. I think this is my second ever. You are not a victim. You are a champion. I know you may not feel like it, but by sharing your truth, you help thousands. Thousands of women that can't get out of bed. Thousands of women that cry every day in the shower, thousands of women that have been through what you have been through. I see the ugliness online about what people say about rape victims. It's horrible. It's disgusting. I hope they read your book. I hope you you have more good days than bad. I hope you feel stronger each day that goes by. Thank you for sharing your deepest, darkest thoughts. Thank you for choosing to narrate your book yourself. It was moving. I will never forget your name.

Great but can be read faster

The story is amazing. I followed the case, but listening to Chanel tell her story is so eye opening, and should be required reader for any person. I listened to the story at 1.25x because the cadence was just a little bit slow for me.
