No Hollywood scriptwriter could possibly have envisioned the breathless, adrenaline-pumping climax to the 2021 Formula 1 season. On the very last lap of the final race of an unbelievably arduous and controversial season, Red Bull's Max Verstappen nervelessly overtook the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes to clinch the first place that thrust the young prodigy to the narrowest of victories and to his first World Drivers' title. He followed up by taking the 2022 title as well.

Driven: The Men Who Made Formula One tells how a small group of extraordinary men transformed Formula One from a niche sport played out on primitive tracks surrounded by hay bales and grass verges into a £1 billion circus performing in vast theatres of entertainment all over the world. Led by Bernie Ecclestone, the billionaire ringmaster, this clique started by scraping a living to go racing and ended up creating space-age cars and turning drivers from amateur gladiators into multimillion-pound superstars, like Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton, while the names of Ferrari, McLaren and Williams are now as familiar around the world as Manchester United or Real Madrid.

In his 17 years as a Formula 1 driver, Jenson Button has picked up a thing or two about how to do the job properly. Sure, you need to be able to drive a car fast - and Jenson is on hand to pass on a few tricks of the trade here - but you also need to know the real rules for making it to the top. Like, how to tell a multiple F1 champion they need to check their blind spot. What the difference is between a helmet and a hat, and indeed a 'helmet-hat'. How to practise your champagne spray ahead of the big day.

J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Packed full of twists and turns, from pre-season preparations to hiring and firing drivers, from the design, launch, and testing of a car to the race calendar itself–Surviving to Drive is the first time that an Formula 1 team has allowed an acting team principal to tell the full story of a whole season.

Titlenshiuld have been: "Günther, unfiltered!"
A bit too much swearing, but that's Günther. otherwise very good. Good insights on what goes on in the F1 paddock. Failed to talk a bit about what are the minute technical differences that separare the top teams from the mid pack.

Amazing for F1 fans!
This is awesome! Guenther did an amazing job reading and writing this. Really gives you a feel for what's going on behind the scenes and how much work these guys have to put in every week.

Outstanding slash unfiltered
Great insight into formula 1 and Hass racing. This is a review of the Amazon audible version which was narrated by the author.
He makes no effort to filter his impression of events as they occurred sends us so with passion and a great deal of expertise.
It’s also a great look into Hass racing and their evolution, painful at times.
The intensity reflects that associated with racing at the top level where performance is everything. Difficulties, successes, frustrations, call brought to the page for the audible version with unfiltered passion
The angst I was struggling with Mick Schumacher, and the anger of money when he was let go are in itself a great story
Highly recommend , Especially the audible version.
