Publisher's summary
"A rare piece of storytelling you’ll be talking about for days afterward.” That’s how the Northwest Herald describes Swing State, Rebecca Gilman’s bracing, brilliant play, now brought to life exclusively for audio by the original off-Broadway cast.
When a recently widowed woman in rural Wisconsin notices her husband’s toolbox is missing, she calls the authorities—and unwittingly starts a chain of events that will forever change her community. What begins as a disarmingly simple mystery blooms into an exploration of loss, the fragility of the environment, and what it means to connect and heal.

In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
How did a once faceless bureaucrat, a man whose own wife said he was born under the sign of the vampire, become the idealized face of Russian manhood and its authoritarian leader? Deputy Mayor Putin examines the man behind the myth. We will explore how Putin’s formative years shaped and drove him and how the supporting cast of characters he gathered along the way helped him get to the Kremlin’s inner sanctum.

Story
Professor Edelstein examines the enduring appeal of Judy Blume’s books. Over seven lessons, you’ll learn how Blume pioneered middle-grade and young adult (YA) literature and helped to make these genres the global sensations they are today. You’ll identify the themes and motifs that run throughout her books, and you’ll review Blume’s books as literary work worthy of analysis. You’ll also see why the very act of questioning (about the existence of God, the persistence of racism, the unwritten rules of suburbia) is so central to Blume’s vision of coming-of-age literature.

Story
It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

Heartbreaking
I read reviews about it before I listened, and a lot of them said it was morbid. That intrigued me into listening. I thought it was heartbreaking and beautiful. I even cried at the end. Definitely worth a listen.

Heartbreaking story
It deals well with human emotions. It did feel like the subject matter was a bit too rich for a short story

A Sweet Tale of Dysfunction
It's difficult to understand how this play was said to have been uplifting during the COVID-19 epidemic. In reality the cast of characters were all very weak. Each one had something they were struggling with. Neither could truly provide support for another. Auntie sheriff represented the worst possible personality for her job, always escalating never calming. In all, it's very depressing.

We can all relate
Swing State was a new and phenomenal experience for me, an avid audio listener. This is my first review of an audio. The writing, acting, and sound effects were just enough for me to feel the realness of the location, each characters personalities, challenges, and emotions. The sounds, tone, and atmosphere of the story along with the setting were so realalistic. I am a lifelong city dweller but this story made me truly understand how our lives, emotions, and experiences are relatable and universal. Through listening to this audio, the actors and sound effects allowed my mind to easily visualize the imagery of the story. I loved this story, and like a great movie, I will listen to Swing State again and again. Thank you to the writer, producer, and cast for this gift through Audible!!

DISAPPOINTING...
There was some decent acting. and a fascinating turn of events. I didn't care for the accidental death or the dismissal, poor portrayal of the local Law Enforcement, either.
Sad story, overall.
