About this listen

NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY Bestselling Author Tina Folsom presents: Cain's Identity (Scanguards Vampires #9)

Scanguards bodyguard Cain struggles with amnesia, however, the curtain to his past finally begins to lift when a mysterious stranger appears, revealing that Cain was the victim of an assassination attempt. It turns out that not only is Cain a powerful vampire king, he's also engaged to Faye Duvall, the female vampire who's been haunting his dreams.

When Faye thinks Cain is dead, she's devastated and can only keep going because she knows her clan needs her. Out of loyalty and love for her fellow vampires, she agrees to marry Abel, Cain's brother, and is shocked when Cain returns to reclaim his throne.

Cain is determined to recapture the love he once shared with Faye. But the assassin won't give up and his ruthlessness knows no limits. Backed up by his loyal friends from Scanguards, Cain suddenly finds himself in a fight to the death and confronted with a choice: to either save his kingdom or his queen.

ANOTHER ENTERTAINING & EXCITING LISTEN

This, as you can see, in no. 9 in Tina Folsom's brilliant Vampire series about hot alpha Security Guards and, in this case, a King. So, if you're into vamps and you want an action-packed listen that starts off with a bang (although this one's against a wall) and continues with excitement, mystery, drama, spells, laughs, romance, sex and a great cast of supporting characters then look no further.

Then there's Eric Dove's narration…. well that's always awesome.

The story has lots of characters that are featured in past books but despite that this could be a stand-alone listen.

Worth a credit? Oh YEAH…. they're auto download's for me.

All Hail the King.

Another successful book by Tina Folsom. We finally get to figure out who Cain is and it took a twist I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed the "fake it until you make it" method that Cain took until he regained his memory. Although the mystery part wasn't all that mysterious, because you already can figure out who the bad guy is, the romance was off the chart. As usual in this series we get to see a lot of the old cast in this book. My favorites in this series still are Gabriel's Mate, Zane's Redemption and Thomas's Choice. Narrator does a great job as usual. Other vampire authors I recommend are Kresley Cole, Thea Harrison, Molly Harper, Charlaine Harris, and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Close to my favorite of this series!

The Scanguards Vampires series has everything you could want in a paranormal romance novel. It has hot vampires, sassy women, witches, hybrids, true love, danger, intrigue, and a few unexpected thrills. Throw in some Cajun flavor with a King from New Orleans and you can't beat it. I loved this series and hope you do too.

IDENTITY SOLVED!

I have read or listen to every book that Tina Folsom has written. Several of them more than once. Although I liked this book and was happy for Cain to get his HEA, knowing all that he had to struggle with to achieve that HEA, this book was kinda meh for me.

Cain is a member of Scanguard that joined the series during Zane’s Redemption Book 5(read it so good). He is a vampire that only knows his name. He doesn’t remember anything of his old life. The Scanguard family happily takes him into their family and make him one of them. Lately Cain is having dreams of a sexy, curvy vampire that he feels drawn too. When he meets a vampire that claims to have information about his identity and the woman Cain is dreaming about, Cain decides to follow this stranger, with some loyal Scanguards member, from the life he knows in San Francisco to the bayous of New Orleans. There he meets Faye and realizes that everything that stranger was telling him is true and decides that it is time to reclaim his life, his throne and the love he has forgotten.

The storyline was filled with action from the beginning of the story until the very end. Seriously, that last two chapters I was almost out of my seat with all the adrenaline that I was feeling. Tina, as always, does a fantastic job of providing a details that draw readers into the story and leave you saying, “I will finish after one more chapter”. The smex scenes are red hot and a great bang (every pun intended). Although this book is in a series, it can be read as a standalone but then you miss the excitement of getting to know all the Scanguard members and their stories. The book is narrated by Eric Dove and OMG, I love his deep baritone voice. Drool worthy!!!

So IMO (in my opinion), I’m kinda on a fence. I loved some aspects of the book and I thought some were meh!! I would say read it because it’s the Scanguard series, how could you not. But then again meh.

Another good Scanguards story

I think I've read or listened to all but a couple of the Scanguards stories. As usual, once I started, I couldn't stop listening to this one. While I wanted to shake Cain a few times and say 'use your brain' he came through in the end. Hope we eventually see a book devoted to Haven's brother. You can't help but love him. And of course, we know we haven't seen the last of Abel.

While not my favorite of the Scanguards stories (Zane will always be my favorite), I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter of the saga. Keep them coming.

Cain's Identity

What disappointed you about Cain's Identity?

Unfortunately, Cain's Identity was only about 2½★ stars for me. I felt that the story was a bit formulaic with the Cain/Abel story line. Cain's Identity diverges from the biblical story line because Cain is portrayed as the good seed and Abel the bad seed which is converse to the original story. That in itself wouldn't be bad. I appreciate with author's take creative license with stories. However, the problem with Cain's Identity was with the story itself. The story was just bland and lack luster. There was no "oomph" in the story which is at odds with every other book in the Scanguards series. There was always something in those stories that engaged my full attention but I just kept hoping for the end in Cain's Identity. As a King, Cain felt anemic. I understand that he was recovering from amnesia but making a few demands of royal subjects doesn't a king make. Cain told people he was a king but he really only showed he was a king when he used his influence to save the two vampires from the Mississippi clan. Also, when he overturned the rule about vampires and humans so that John could claim the woman he loved. Beyond that, I didn't see his strength in the king department. Honestly, any of the other Scanguards vampires could have had that title and it would have felt more believable than Cain having it. And Abel...*sigh*...Abel was the classic story book villain. I could see him tweaking his mustache with a diabolical laugh. He was almost laughable as a villain. But, what was worse is that Cain was totally clueless of his machinations. I realized who the culprit was for all of the Cain's woes early on in the story. There was no mystery or intrigue about it at all. The story probably would have been better if SO many clues were not given to point to Abel's guilt. Also, I must talk about the ending *insert another sigh*. I honestly and truly hope that Fulsom intentionally ended the story with a non-resolution to the Abel issue -- like he will come back in another story. However, I hope this was just a fade to black moment and not a fade to gray with Abel coming back. This was one of the weakest Scanguards book (re: story) and I sincerely hope it ends here and that another character (sans mentions of Abel) is the focus of any future books. Overall, I was very disappointed with Cain's Identity and was really hoping for more. I also listened to this in audio format and the narrator was not good at all. His voice was bland and his feminine voices were horrible. I'm sure this factor also contributed to my less than stellar feelings about the story but all things considered, it didn't help. I have hopes that the tide will turn and any future books will reflect the formula used for the earlier books in the series. Those, I enjoyed.

Has Cain's Identity turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

What didn’t you like about Eric G. Dove’s performance?

His male voices were bland and his feminine voices --- BAD!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Nothing except wishing for the end of the book.
