Publisher's summary

Coleman Wilder is a half-breed werewolf. Some days the tension between his human side and his werewolf instincts threaten to tear him apart. But the challenge of running a horse farm as a gay man in a conservative Tennessee town keeps him focused until he meets horse shifter, Jonah Marks.

Jonah's family insists that shifting is sinful, but Jonah longs to let his stallion run free. Desperate to escape his family's judgment, he asks Cole, his secret crush, for a job. Cole turns him down, scared his desire for Jonah will make him lose control. When Jonah's brother threatens his life, Cole struggles to save him and give them both a second chance at the life they've always wanted.

Disappointing narrator makes it a difficult listen

I absolutely LOVE this author! I have many of her audio books and almost all of her ebooks and will continue to purchase her work. That being said, I was so disappointed with this audiobook. The narrator does a terrible “country accent” that I wasn’t able to stand for longer than an hour or so at a time. I can tell the difference in the authors work between when this was written and her newest work that just came out (Anticipating Disaster). Her writing has grown in the time between those books, and that does make it harder to listen as well (lots of short, non-descriptive, declarative sentences vs flowing conversation and natural descriptions). All in all, it’s one that I’m glad I tried because I still love this author, but was in the end disappointed in.

Could have used some work

Once we got past the self deprecation, I really liked the story. I just wished that part would have ended way sooner.

Accent ruined book

I may have enjoyed the book more, but the atrocious southern accent was HORRENDOUS. SIGH

My first m-m shifter romance ... it won me over!

I've avoided shifter romances because they seemed too fantasy-oriented ... but I started listening without being aware (because I really liked other books by Sylvia Violet) ... and got sucked in! I ended up enjoying the story despite my shifter misgivings! I thought the narration was good and helped win me over!

good idea, not a great book

The premiss was good, original. But I found the story lacking. It consists of a lot of dialogue between the MCs and a lot of Cole's thoughts. There is a lot of repetition in those thoughts, and a lot of angst/negative thinking. It's not bad though, the emotions are quite intense and there are several intriguing concepts. The Kindle price is low enough for it to be something to pick up.

I got the 'audio companion' with it for a nice price too, so that's ok. The narration wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Part of that is personal preference, part of it is that the narrator doesn't differentiate between characters very much.

Pretty cheesy

This is a pretty cheesy Harlequin type mm romance book. It is over the top sappy; which I have been known to enjoy if I like the MC. But I just didn't connect with the wolf or stallion or the contrived conflict btwn Jonah's "fundamentalist" family. It was all just too much and the writing was pretty mediocre. I almost DNF it, but the narrator was pretty good so I pressed on. Lots of sex but not much else IMHO. Not worth a credit unless you like that sort of thing. Maybe a sale.

ok story

is an okay story maybe a different narrator would have made it a little bit better. they should have second thoughts on using this narrator.
