Publisher's summary

Twenty-four-year-old Eric Marshall arrives on Prince Edward Island to become a substitute schoolmaster, even though he has a bright future in his wealthy family's business. Eric has taken the two-month teaching post only as a favor to a friend - but fate throws in his path a beautiful, mysterious girl named Kilmeny Gordon. With jet black hair and sea blue eyes, Kilmeny immediately captures Eric's heart. But Kilmeny cannot speak, and Eric is concerned for and bewitched by this shy, sensitive mute girl. For the first time in his life, he must work hard for something he wants badly. And there is nothing he wants more than for Kilmeny to return his love.

Charming.

In true Montgomery fashion, a cute little story with simplicity, old-fashioned charm and romance.

Astounding story of Love & the Power of Love!!!

This book is a rare gem. It's a beautiful story of love and the power of love. It was originally published in 1910. I mean, really it's like "Wow!" The further into it that it goes the better it gets. It's soft and sweet. Really, fantastic stuff.

Narrator's pronunciation is horrid!

I loved the book, but the narrator needs some help. She read in a very southern accent (book's setting is Canada) and mispronounced the main character's name the entire book. Annoying!

Great story and great narration

Lovely love story and beautiful descriptions of the natural beauty of PEI.. I enjoyed the recording. I thought the narration was very good and very soothing to listen to. So glad I added this to my Maud collection!

sweet romance. not erotica

this is a sweet and innocent romance written in 1910. It is an innocent coming of age story.

a mixed bag of a book

I liked Grace Conlins narration performance pretty well. The story itself was short, simple, romantic and quite lovely in many ways. Certain parts I did find just silly and others both offensive and a bit racist, though. This is not an unproblematic book. But there were several likeable details ,parts and characters as well. Montgomerys descriptions were poetic and flowery as always,Even though her prose lacked some of the ease and flow she later got so very good at. Overall the book was worth a listen, but it won't become a new favourite of mine.

LM Montgomery

I have listened to almost all of LM Montgomery books on audible. This is a delightful light read. Suitable for teens to adults. Very enjoyable. I recommend it.
