Publisher's summary
i>They call him many names, but angelic isn't one of them.
Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters", and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He's determined to continue doing what he does best - sin and sin again - and all's going swimmingly…until the day a shop door opens and she walks in.
She's too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world.
Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she's going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him - and with him her family and future - means taking on the devil himself, she won't back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible that the person who needs saving most is Jessica herself.

Great characters!
In romance novels, there is sometimes a strong hero and a naive heroine, or a repressed hero with a free-spirited heroine. This book has two strong characters duking it out from their first meeting, and of course we know that leads to true love. It moves along quickly and is not just an excuse to string together sex scenes, as sometimes happens. I's not really a spoiler to say that it has the traditional arc of a romance where not only does the heroine get the hero but she makes him better. Kate Reading is excellent.

Character Perfection...Narration at its best!
First off....this book could have sucked (but it didn't! ) and I would have listened anyway...because KATE READING COULD READ A PHONE BOOK AND BRING IT TO LIFE! She is the best narrator on the planet. In fact she is the ONLY reason I listened to this book. But I'm so glad I did because.....
Lord of scoundrels is brilliant! I fell in love with Jessica immediately. She is easily in my top 3 heroines of all time. Chase's ability to bring characters to life (with Reading's help of course) is fascinating. This is a totally character driven book. There is a plot and storyline but it all takes a backseat to the dialogues and interactions between Jessica and Dain.
This is one of the best books I have ever listened to. Witty...funny...tragic...heart-wrenching...heartwarming...romantic...sensual...Lord of Scoundrels has everything.
The romantic scenes are steamy and somewhat descriptive but not over the top. They are handled tastefully.
This book is worth a credit...heck it's worth 2!

Fantastic story
I had to restart this story 3 times. I almost decided to return but I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s an exciting, touching story with some surprising twists. It really teaches you that things/people aren’t always what they seem. I really ended up enjoying the 2 main characters. Very romantic!

Fantastic, classic book, outstanding narrator.
I love Kate Reading's narration. Just love it. She is an audiobook rock star. When I saw that she had narrated one of my all-time favorite "Modern Regency" novels (i.e., with sex and with the behavioral aspects "cheated" towards the modern from the Georgette Heyer starting point), I got it immediately. And I was not disappointed. Ms. Reading has a true gift for male characters (see her reading of 6 books in the outstanding fantasy series by Jim Butcher called the Codex Alera, with a male main character -- I have never heard better rendering of male voices than Kate Reading, and defy anyone to give a superior example -- she is just that good). As for Ms. Chase's book, well, you just need to get it and bask in the awesomeness. She has her own gift for portraying the inner lives and turmoil of her characters, and their struggles through their own personal baggage and foibles towards the healing power of love. And when you add to that her other forte -- sparkling, witty dialogue -- well, it really just doesn't get any better than this. Lord of Scoundrels is a book I read maybe 20 years ago, and it stayed on my mental top-10 romance list all these years. 'Nuff said!

Perfect love story
This one made me cry...they were just the perfect couple. I loved this love story, I had read the book a couple of years ago, but listening to the story was amazing.

Still the best Loretta Chase
I would have preferred a male narrator, but it was still enjoyable with a female narrator. Still one of my favourite romance novels of all time.

Good character development!
I enjoyed the book. The development of the leading characters, Jessica and Dare, throughout the story held my interest.

A Pleasure
Where does Lord of Scoundrels rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Unlike many historical romance writers, Loretta Chase can really write. This book is a pleasure to listen to. Good narration as well.
