About this listen

Piper Stone's hunky, rude, entitled, Scrooge of a boss is pushing her buttons every day, but he's taken it too far this time. Saying she couldn't take the holidays off was one thing; preventing her to go home to her sick child? Not happening. She has zero regrets when she resigns. Bennet McFinnley can't believe his annoyingly perfect personal assistant has actually resigned from her cushy, highly paid position, and he intends to tell her exactly what he thinks about it. But when he gets to her place, he comes to realize he might not know Piper as well as he thought he had.

Cute and fun holiday romance

So, I actually read (listened to) this book twice, back to back. The first run through, I was trying to pay attention, but was listening while I was working and I think some things got lost. Once I got to the end, I realised that it was really cute, and I needed to go back and fill in all those things that I thought I may have missed. The second time through made it that much better. (I suppose paying attention will do that...)

I am a huge fan of the dickish boss and the tolerant-until-she-isn't assistant trope, and add in that this one also had a single mom who would do anything for her kid, and that it is set at Christmas, I just knew it would be a hit for me. 'Scrooge' was instantly attached to her kid, and that always does something for me too. Thought it did seem that the romance part of it all came on a bit too fast for me, I feel like it was kind of okay in this case because these two had known each other for years through their parents before she started working for him.

There isn't a ton of depth in this short story, probably due to its length and that it's written in third person, but it was still really fun and cute to me. The audiobook was done in a sort of duet narration style, and both new-to-me narrators did a great job. I'd happily pick up the rest of this series, as I assume those books are about his small group of friends.

So cute

I just adore this little series, and you can't go wrong with Scrouge (aka Ben). add in 1 sassy Piper Nd then 1 extra sassy Mya and you have a hit. it's a cute, sweet, short story that will make you laugh out loud. So enjoy, happy reading

Quite the sugar plum considering the title

Only the first thirty minutes matches the cover, with a mouthy, sassy not-meet-cute to kick off a surprisingly sweet and yes, Christmassy, rom-com. I did not like the narrators at all in novella 1 and therefore passed on this one until today’s sale, but boy am I glad I gave them a second chance.
I still think Mr. Levine makes Bennet sound like a fifty-something geezer instead of a hot, tattooed billionaire scrooge. Maybe the story was just that good, but even his narration worked for me by the end.

Despite the sassy start, and the occasional F bomb, this was more about struggling single mom Piper,
her adorable daughter Maya, and Bennett the Scrooge discovering the joys of friendship, family, and love. The single quickie at the end was almost out of place in this sugarplum feel good listen.

Don't like the sound of male narrator's voice..

Im sure this is a great story and the narrators were great I just couldn't take the sound of the male narrator, couldn't imagine a handsome man, his voice would be better for mystery or suspense not a romance story. I couldn't get past the first few chapters to bad I can't read this, had to purchase and now stuck with it. sucks I couldn't hear sample of voice beforehand- sample was of woman narrator.

Re-listened. So impressed with character development. Really hard time with female narrator. H starts out as the world's biggest jerk. This story so worth the credit.

11-26-19
pleasantly surprised by this one. characters nicely developed for so short a story. one sex scene at the very end. female narrator much better than the previous book. enjoyed it all. thanks

excellent narrators

Good story, well written. But the narrators really made it turning a good read into a nearly perfect listen!

Wish there was more

I liked it much more than I expected. I figured it would be all sex and no substance or a cliche on the original story...but to my utter enjoyment, it was much more. The characters had a depth I didn't expect for such a short story. And I even, found myself hoping the author has written stories about his guy friends and the chicks they seem to be hung up on. I was truly a little saddened to hear it end. and even though alot less sex than anticipated, it was still a sexy, humorous, easy listen. I would highly recommend to friends of both sexes.

why 3 stars for the story???

this story could have been so much more. it could have been conflict with Pipper parents and Ben parents after they got together about her daughter... it could have been the ex girlfriend or husband... or both coming back for money or anything I love all of the author's stories, I just always feel like there could be so much more
