About this listen

An all new second chance love story by the New York Times Bestselling author of the Driven series.

It all started with the invitation. To my ex-fiance’s new wedding.

I should have ignored it. Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t. I replied.

With a plus one.

And then my assistant accidentally mailed it.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.

When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear of him. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me.

But I didn’t.

And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Or do we risk the chance and see what happens next?

A rating overall...

My Review:
Overall: 4.75
Performance: 4.75
Story: 4.5

I adore second chance at love stories and this was an absolutely fantastic one. Hayes and Saylor were high school lovers. Then he got an opportunity for his big break in Hollywood, and he left...without ever looking back at the girl he left behind brokenhearted. He did make it huge and she dealt with her heartbreak as best she could...mainly by falling for the wrong guy afterwards. But after 6 years with the wrong guy, she finally wised up and broke it off with her fiance. The problem...the ex-fiance has a very powerful family in this small town and they're ruining the business in this small town.

Now to add insult to injury, they sent her an invite to the wedding she planned, but with someone else as the bride. Saylor isn't heartbroken, but she's hurt and doesn't know how to deal with this man and his family who so obviously want to rub her nose in his new happiness. Her older brother (who's still best friends with Hayes) thinks the ultimate revenge would be to show up at the destination wedding with a much better man on her arm showing that she's moved up in the world, so he calls in a favor to Hayes, the now mega-movie star who still has a soft spot in his heart for the girl he left behind.

There was so much to love about this book, but I think my favorite was Saylor herself. She's just trying to save her bakery, Sweet Cheeks, that she loves so much. I love the dichotomy of how much the ex-fiance hated that about her vs. how much Hayes helps her embrace her love for all things cupcakes, including randomly having frosting in her hair. Hayes has made some epic mistakes with her and other parts of his life, but he's such a good guy and the two of them together are pure magic. There's no denying that they are truly soulmates who just lost their way. I love them together and how much Hayes' love for her makes her so much stronger. She's already a confident woman, but Hayes' belief in her is everything.

Note: I listened to this on audio although I have the book in print, too. (Um, hello...did you see that cover? It's worth having in print just to drool over all the pretty that is that cover.) There are dual narrators for this based upon the back and forth male/female pov. I love it when audiobooks are done that way and these two narrators are absolutely top-notch. I loved both of them and how they did both their male and female voices. I thought their styles matched perfectly and seamlessly. It was a GREAT audiobook for a great book! I highly recommend it.

Sweet indeed!

I simply loved this childhood friend to lovers story. It was very well written and also had great narration. There were funny little things in the story to make you smile and it had a wonderful ending.

What a sweet story…

I chose this book because of the narrators. But the story was great! Sweet, sexy and oh so romantic… I loved it!

It was a cute story but NOT enough of Sebastian York!

I will say that I DID like this story but there was nowhere NEAR enough of Sebastian York. 32 of the chapters were narrated by Andi Arnt (who does an Outstanding job). Only 13 of them are narrated by Sebastian York. (And one of his characters is only 1:32 long, barely there). I got this book on Audibles last $5.00 sale so I didn’t spend too much on it. So if you don’t mind a 65% female and 35% male narration this is a good book.

Surprisingly good

I went in thinking, okay here is another cheesy love story and in some ways maybe it is, BUT there were some great date and Valentine’s Day or anniversary gift ideas!
This was a pretty good book 😊

Storyline Kept Me Interested

Story kept me listening, but I’m not a fan of Andi Arndt’s voice(sorry). I just find it a little annoying. I think that was the only negative part.

Sweet Cheeks

This is a sweet love story and has a good story line. And like most fans I love these two narrators! However for me it was lacking something. I felt like I knew exactly where the story was heading through the whole book but overall like I said it was a sweet love story and still a good read.
