Publisher's summary

I’ve been quiet long enough.

I’m nothing like my brothers. I’ve devoted my life to my work, and I don’t care about God or family.

I live alone, and I like it that way. Soon, I’ll have the job of my dreams far away from this place, and that’s all that matters. Everything is going perfectly.

That is until Sadie Green walks into my class.

She is brilliant and funny and infuriating, and she’s ruining everything I have planned for my life.

When she gets the news that she’s pregnant, and the baby’s father isn't going to help her, I step in. She needs guidance, control, and discipline.

Moving her into my house is a risk. If I’m caught living with my pregnant student, I will lose my job and everything I have planned.

But the first time she asks me to punish her, I know it won’t be so easy to walk away—because I love it.

Being with her would risk everything, but God help me, I can’t seem to stop.

Before long, I don’t recognize the good teacher I used to be.

Sultry and provocative

I am here for the Goode Brothers series- I am obsessed with the complicated, emotionally repressed, broken but alpha Goode Brothers and their sultry, sensual, and existential love stories.

What I’m loving about this series is how Sara Cate is getting to do what she does best. How she marries intensely psychological journeys of self (often rooted in past trauma or some sort of existential crisis…here it’s deeply stepped in parental abuse and religious trauma) with wonderfully erotic sexual exploration and unexpected, or in this case forbidden, relationship dynamics. The sex always catalyzes the self-discovery…and the self-discovery incredibly provides emotional and sexual liberation. I was EXTRA excited for the Heartbreaker because it’s so many of my favorite tropes- the age gap, student-teacher dynamic AND surprise baby…that’s not his?! GASP. I was gagging for it from the start-...and after one mesmerizing chapter with the deliciously stoic but insanely doting Dr. Goode, I knew I’d be a goner for him. Professor Goode is by far my favorite Goode brother yet- he’s perfectly broken AND dreamy. A man who just wants to take care of someone and take charge of them….yas, sign me up, Sir.

Sadie on the other hand....eh, unfortunately I didn't love her as much as I wanted to. She's not just naive, at times she's boneheaded. And the whole conflict and resolution felt really unfair to me- not only that, I just didn't really her grow up or evolve much as a character. Dr. Goode not much as well either. I loved their chemistry, but it never felt to move beyond the caregiver/physical to me into a more emotive connection quite like I've seen Sara Cate do in the past. It started so strong, and didn't quite culminate with the depth I've come to expect from her.

The audio featured two of my favorite narrators- CJ Bloom and Jason Clarke. And Jason Clarke ATE THIS UP Y’ALL. Legit the perfect choice, bringing all the grit and control and edge to Professor Goode with all the nuances and increasingly unveiled emotive range. And CJ brought all the fire and sass of Sadie but the much needed vulnerability and naivete to her character. The dream team casting, and I inhaled this audio, and it defintely helped me connect to the characters more.

🖤 Professor-student/forbidden romance
🖤 age gap (10 years)
🖤 forced proximity ( roommates
🖤 surprise baby (and it’s not his)
🖤religious/family trauma
🖤Dom-sub ISH vibes (he likes to be in charge)
🖤Curvy heroine

Love this series!

Listening to this book is a whole new experience from just reading it. These narrators really bring this story to life. It was emotional, taboo and deliciously spicy. Sadie and Lucas are perfection together. They balance each other out perfectly. If you’re looking for a story with student/ professor, d*m/ brat and surprise pregnancy(not his) look no further, this one’s for you!

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧Compelling & Heartfelt!

Sara Cate pens another winning novel, the third in her “Goode Brothers” series and oh my good(e)ness, what a story it is, one that not only captivated my attention the entire time, but tugged at my heartstrings too. Each book in this series features a different brother, and this one is Lucas’ book. Lucas has a doctorate degree and is a college English professor, except for occasional booty calls he keeps mostly to himself. Growing up, his screwed up father treated his family terribly, but he caught the brunt of his anger and it left a bitter taste in his mouth about love and relationships, basically leaving him broken. He is close with his mother and brothers, especially Isaac, though his brothers were not aware they kept in contact. Sadie Green works in Sage’s club with plans of opening her own club and is taking classes to earn a business degree and Lucas teaches one of those classes, a class she arrived late for on the first day, bringing attention to herself and not a good impression with him. Lucas does not know what it is about her, but she gets under his skin and after seeing what a mess she was, he offers her to help her out, which included giving her a place to live. It was great to watch these two get to know each other and see their relationship grow and then morph into something more, and a step away from their norm. I thought these two were amazing together and for each other, his understanding and acceptance of her unplanned pregnancy were admirable. But there is a reason Lucas is a breaker of hearts, or several, and if he can not get past his own insecurities and inner demons, he risks losing everything, including what he did not know he needed. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. And as always, the writing, plot and world building are exceptional, as are the character growth and development. Sara Cate, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride. I am looking forward to Isaac’s story and what comes next for the Goode brothers and family.

🎧📚🎧 Jason Clarke and CJ Bloom did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life, and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. Both shined in their roles as the two leads, grasping every aspect of their personality, including their demeanor, and they were just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling each one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their performance elevates this already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

hot for Lucas Goode 🔥

First things first, I listened to the audio book and was absolutely FLOORED by the performance in this one. The narrators not only read the book but they expressed every little emotion through their voices. It was absolutely incredible. This whole series just HITS in audio. I swear, they are like none other. 🔥

Can we all collectively agree that we are obsessed with Luke from geh very beginning? I meannnnn this man. Everything that he does, and continues to do for his... Family. (Avoiding spoilers here) I was shocked and happy all at the same time.

As for the romance. 🥵 Sadie and Luke brought the heat. I am constantly thinking about the way the relationship came to be. And how to got to where it was. I adored Sadie but I loved that Like finally got his person. He has been through so much, carried so much guilt and fear but he finally got his HEA 🥹

Getting to catch up with all the past couples is always my favorite part of an interconnected standalone series. And this one was no different. I loved getting to see Caleb Briar and Dean just leaving in there own little family unit.

5 BILLION stars 🌟 ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Another homerun for Sara Cate!! I loved every single thing about this book. The MMC & FMC are absolutely amazing. They are so relatable ,and of course we are familiar with the FMC from the 1st Goode brothers book. (Also a banger of a book) The narrators knocked it out of the freakin park!! I mean.....amazing job.
The spice was great. I loved that it was not over the top,and was perfectly written into the characters story. It totally added to the depth of the story, and the level of trust between the characters. I highly rec this book.
