Publisher's summary

The subject of these memoirs is Lady Beatrice Pokingham, one of the brightest and most charming of her sex. Imbued with exquisite beauty and a most beguiling eroticism, her passion for seduction created a life of intense bliss. No physical experience was beyond her desire. Poor girl, she did not live long. In leaving her diaries to a devoted suitor after her demise at age twenty and three, Lady Pokingham insured that her escapades would be enjoyed by connoisseurs of erotica for years to come. Now her memoirs are captured in an enticing collection of highly erotic and amusing adventures from the Victorian Era, based on the classic erotic publication The Pearl.

Classically dumb

I know this is the supposed grandmama of modern erotica and a landmark of human sexuality but it's also very very silly. Find an old copy in a university library and flip through it if you're curious. There's no need to hear every word.
The author does her very best 'period piece' voiceover but that too was old 5 minutes in.
Unless you are invariably charmed by absolutely everything victorian I can't imagine you'll much enjoy it.

It was nice to see subduction and class from the past and I liked the history of human elegance.

Gamahuche

As classic erotica goes it was enjoyable for the most part. Unfortunately, too often Victorian work goes to the dark with people being forced into situations they don't want which modern or sane audiences would disapprove of. And in too many cases the characters involved in the situations were too young for a modern audience. But the happy, adult stories were enjoyable and the narrator did a wonderful job with her sensual, breathy delivery. Also, not personally being a fan of birch branches, I can't recommend some chapters, but if you are, do enjoy.

OLD FASHIONED EROTICA, FANTASIES BEWARE

GREAT BOOK, I READ THIS AS A TEENAGER MANY, MANY YEARS AGO, BORROWING THIS FROM AN OLDER SISTER, AND 30 YEARS LATER IT IS STILL SOME OF THE BEST WRITING OF ITS KIND.
