ENJOYABLE BUT WAY TOO SHORT

I love love love Maya Bank's books and savour everything she writes - however, I feel these short stories are a bit too short - yes they pack a lot in and are usually romantic, hot and sweet but sadly I probably won't be downloading anything more that's just a few hours long.

You do get a good quick entertaining and enjoyable listen but it just doesn't quite satisfy your appetite - it's like eating a M burger, yes it's quick, enjoyable and filling but a steak done on the BBQ is something you can get your teeth into and is far more rewarding and satisfying - so I'll probably just stick to her +6 hr listens in future.

Shorty

Story was way too short for the price of the book. Love story was a bit steamy but it needed more .

Short and Sweet HEA

A very sweet little story by Maya Banks. She is an amazing author. The story is about an abused woman who is leaving her husband. A touchy subject indeed. Not to worry, it's a HEA!

I had a little problem with the narration. Too slow for my liking. So, I listened to it with increased speed of 1.20x. That was much better.

This book is definitely worth listening to if the narration is acceptable for you. Enjoy!

We Texans don't have accents.. Ya'll do...

Not a bad story. Very believeable characters. I'm sure it's happened in Texas before. Easy to get attached. BUT...the narrator's accent is HORRIBLE... I live in Beaumont! We don't sound like that! It was very distracting for me.

Maya, have you heard this? you live in Texas!!!

Not my favorite. Left me wanting more

Sorry

A very good hot romantic story

This story covered some real true to life experiences that were handled very well. It had a very romantic story despite her past. True to Banks writing, the love scenes were very hot. Just way to short a story. Narrator was very good, hadn’t listened to her before.

Short and sexy story

This audiobook is about a woman who was abused by her famous pro-football husband and his ex-best friend who have both been fighting their attraction to each other for several years, since her divorce. It’s complicated by the people in their small town who show disdain to her for “not being woman enough” to hang onto their towns Golden boy athlete. One of the few in town who know the truth is his ex friend, who has been in love with her since high school. When she decides to put herself out there in the world of men again, he intercepts and steps up to the plate as her man. There are romantic and sexy scenes. The narration was well done.

Terrible.

The issue of domestic violence is pervasive in our culture. It is a topic that should be handled with honesty and with care. The heroine in this story, survived abuse and created a new life for herself . Instead of displaying the strength and fortitude this character would need to posses to be a survivor. She is portrayed as weak-willed and naive. Why is it that books written for an overwhelmingly female audience, so often feature one-dimensional women characters without agency in their own stories? It's getting harder and harder to accept such uninspiring, weak-ass female characters. It's just insulting, to me and every other romance reader.

Domestic violence made for an unsexy novella

If done right, a domestic violence backstory can support a good romance. However, it felt like Ellie went from a physically abusive relationship to a controlling relationship, without much in the way of shared interests, friendship, or chemistry to sell the new man’s value. The novella started with Jake hauling her out of a bar, where she was trying to live a little. From there, it’s a series of him threatening to beat up any man who even looked at her, telling her that she’s his forever once she has sex with him, and constantly saying he’s going to tie her up in order to keep her from leaving. It didn’t help that she’s a doormat. The biggest character growth ended up coming from her abusive ex, which did not sell this story or the MCs.
