Growing up on a cattle and horse farm in rural Georgia, I learned from our veterinarian on the need for adequate nutrition in our animals. I started doing wound care way back in the late 1980s, on both small and large animals. My medical career started in 2000 when I became a Fireman and First Responder, in rural Northeast Georgia. In 2001 I earned my Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) license. I served in the US Army as a Healthcare Specialist / Combat Medic (91w). In 2006, I earned my first wound care certification from the NBDHMT, as a Diver Medic Technician-Advanced (DMT-A). I earned credentials as a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutritional Nurse Specialist in Georgia, also in 2006. Over 24 years later, I hold or have held some of the highest credentials in wound care and related fields, available to nurses. These include Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 2006, Certified Wound Care Associate (CWCA) from the ABWM in 2010, Registered Nurse (RN) in 2018, Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) from the ABWM in 2020, Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) from the ARN in 2020, a FACCWS in 2022, Certified Functional Nutrition Informed Professional (CFNIP) in 2023. I have earned hundreds of hours of continuing education certificates in wound care and nutrition and gained knowledge from hundreds of research articles, over the last 16 years, educating myself primarily in nutrition for wound care and nutrition for the geriatric population.
