Alexey A. Petrov is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University. He has been on the faculty after postdoctoral fellowships at Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1997. His main research interests include theoretical analysis of electroweak interactions, CP-violation, QCD, and heavy flavor physics. He has authored numerous research papers, and organized several research conferences. His research is continuously funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Energy. Prof. Petrov is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He is the recipient of numerous research and service awards and is a Comenius Guest Professor at the University of Siegen (Germany). He is a member of the Editorial Boards of two international physics journals. He is also an author of a popular blog ``Symmetry factor" (http://apetrov.wordpress.com) and a contributor of a blog aggregate ``Quantum Diaries" (http://www.quantumdiaries.org/author/alexey/), where he discusses latest news in high energy physics as well as their sociological implications.
