I have been interested in Data Privacy even before I had my own identity compromised when a thief broke into the trunk of my car while I was in Los Angeles and stole a suitcase containing my passport, address book, and many other items that could identify me along with cash and jewelry. My daughter subsequently received a telephone call from the thief offering to sell my passport back to me if I would meet him at a L.A. gas station. Naturally I declined and informed the police but little or nothing was done to apprehend the thief. Not a big enough deal for the police to get involved I guess. When I told my story to my colleagues I found out that most of them had similar stories of having being pick-pocketed or having their credit cards stolen and even in one case the thief had a fake drivers license made and cleaned out the person's bank account. I started to do research on the subject and the result is my book which not only warns people of the many ways thieves or hackers can steal your data but also the glut of information available to data brokers and law enforcement. I think some of the revelations will shock people! Along the way I give you lots of tips to safeguard your personal privacy.
