Chantal Bilodeau is a New York–based playwright and translator originally from Montreal. Her play Sila won first prize in the 2012 Earth Matters on Stage Ecodrama Festival and the 2011 Uprising National Playwriting Competition. She is the recipient of a Jerome Travel and Study Grant and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Notable among her English translations are Bintou by Koffi Kwahulé and Abraham Lincoln Goes to the Theatre by Larry Tremblay.
Her plays and translations have been presented in theatres across the U.S., as well as in Canada, Mexico and Italy. She has received fellowships from the Lark Play Development Center, the Dramatists Guild, the National Endowment for the Arts and, most recently, The Arctic Circle – an expeditionary residency program bringing together artists, architects, scientists and educators to collectively explore a region of the Arctic.
Her translations include plays by Mohamed Kacimi (Algeria), Koffi Kwahulé (Côte d’Ivoire), Étienne Lepage (Québec) and Larry Tremblay (Québec).
