Hillary Whittington was born in Oceanside and grew up in a small town north of Temecula. Upon graduation from high school she attended the University of California, San Diego, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Theatre. After attending UCSD, Hillary went on to become a Territory Manager for Southern Wines & Spirits, followed by a position as the California Regional Manager for Sanuvox Technologies. Upon the birth of her children, Ryland and Brynley, Hillary took time away from her professional career to focus on being a mother. After discovering her son was both deaf and transgender, Hillary began dedicating her efforts to raising awareness about the transgender community. Hillary created a viral YouTube video and co-authored a book titled "Raising Ryland: Our Story Of Parenting A Transgender Child With No Strings Attached," published by HarperCollins. Hillary has volunteered her time on various committees such as the executive board of Equality California, HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council, board member/secretary of Project Talk, Rady Children's Hospital Family Advisory Council, Family Advisory Board for Project Trans, SD County’s CPS/Foster Care Transgender Task Force, and her local church’s Reconciling Ministries Committee. To name a few, Hillary has given talks for Goldman Sachs, Demi Lovato’s Future Now Tour, Qualcomm, Fulbright Scholars, UCSD Medical School, and SDSU classes. Hillary and her family have been recognized as “Best Straight Allies,” received the “LGBT Trailblazer Award” by the Harvey Milk Foundation, received “The Courage Award” from NCLR, received recognition from The Trevor Project, and have been recognized with the “Harvey Milk Inspiration Award.” Hillary and Jeff continue to raise awareness through public speaking and remain dedicated to the progression of LGBTQ+ inclusive public policy.
