Joan Romney Groves was an elementary school counselor for 23 years before retiring. She received the 2004 Utah School Counselor of the Year Award. She holds a BS (cum laude) from the University of Utah and a MEd from Brigham Young University. She is the mother of 6 and the grandmother of 28. She wants children to read true stories. She believes children learn empathy and character development from these stories. She has published "The Antique Organ and Other Stories" for the Gale History Center, as well as family histories.
