He was born in São Paulo, but grew up in Curvelo, Minas Gerais. (Brazil). At the age of 17, he moved into Belo Horizonte in order to study, where he leaves to this day. There, he married and had his children, completed a doctorate in Philosophy of Law at UFMG (1998) and began his career as a professor and researcher, first at PUC Minas (in 1993) and later also at UFMG (in 2011). He is a former president of the Brazilian Association of Philosophy of Law and Sociology of Law (ABRAFI) and of the National Council for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Law (CONPEDI). Currently, he is the vice-president of the Internationale Vereinigung für Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie - International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR) and a CNPq Fellow. He was a visiting professor at the University of Baltimore (USA), in 2014/2015, and a resident professor at the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG in 2022.
