I wanted to write a book that would help Mother Earth. I was inspired by participating in Lakota Sweat Lodges, going on the hill to do Vision Quests, and attending and dancing in Sun Dances. These beautiful ways of the Lakota inspired me to tell the story of seeing Mother Earth from the Spirits’, Animals’, and Mother Earth’s perspective. My hope for the book was that it would help turn hearts from apathy to compassion to action for our Earth Mother. I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota and wandered the hills and cliffs when I was a young child. As long as I took my dog, my parents let me go. Those were the most inspirational of times. The pine trees spoke to me, the breezes whispered words of encouragement, the clouds sent me shapes with messages, and the deer came near and touched my heart. I left the Black Hills, went to college, married, had children, and started my career first in broadcasting and then in advertising. I began as a copywriter and expanded from there. Like most people, I had many trials in my life. Some were very traumatic. These difficulties led me to become a seeker of truth and took me to places across the planet. It wasn’t until I went back home to the people of Western South Dakota that I found myself again. I realized that vision was one of the most beautiful gifts from the Creator, and that I would forever be grateful for any tiny glimpses I was allowed to see. After a long time, I reunited my grown-up and often wounded self with the child of inspiration and vision who had wandered Mother Earth’s beautiful hills and cliffs with her collie dog, Laddie, always by her side.
