Mary Cyr is a musicologist and professor emerita at the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada). She holds a Ph.D. (1975) from the University of California, Berkeley, where she completed a dissertation on Jean-Philippe Rameau's opéra-ballet, Les fêtes d'Hébé. Her research interests include several areas of French Baroque music, specifically performance practice, iconography, the history of string instruments, source studies, and scholarly editing. Prior to her retirement in 2005, she also performed extensively as a viola da gamba soloist and Baroque cellist. She is currently conducting research on the viol music of Marin Marais and music of the Forqueray family.
