Shawn Tenbrink has served on the front lines of U.S. diplomacy at embassies and consulates throughout the Middle East and North Africa for the last decade. After completing his Bachelor of Arts in History from Miami University of Ohio, he made his first foray into the region as a Peace Corps volunteer serving in The Sahara below the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. In that country’s mud castles, he experienced his first taste of people-to-people diplomacy. Following the Peace Corps, he earned a Master of Laws in International Economic Law from the University of Kent's Brussels School of International Studies. It was in graduate school that he passed the Foreign Service Officer Test on his initial attempt. His first posting was to Damascus, Syria, at the time of the uprising of the Arab Spring. Shawn’s time in the Syrian revolution shaped him into the diplomat, husband, and person he is today. Following Syria, he continued serving in the Middle East and North Africa with a posting in Muscat, Oman, and two challenging assignments in Beirut, Lebanon. He currently serves as the Political & Economic Chief at the U.S. Consulate in Casablanca, Morocco.
