Following almost 20 years serving simultaneously as a pastor and professor of biblical studies and languages in university and seminary settings, Tim Cargal joined the national staff of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as Assistant Stated Clerk in the Office of the General Assembly for Preparation for Ministry. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Vanderbilt University, where he wrote his dissertation on the Epistle of James. He has continued to write about that New Testament letter over the years as a contributor to The New Oxford Annotated Bible (4th and 5th editions), the Fortress Commentary on the Bible, and the Feminist Companion to the New Testament.
