I am the author here. Other places I am other things—psychiatrist, father, veteran, husband, and bird watcher. Fair enough, that last one probably isn’t all that important. It’s just something to do with a free afternoon. My writing is an extension of my dreaming. My dreaming is an extension of a ridiculously short attention span. The reality in my head was always so much more interesting than the world around me, with all its expectations, deadlines, and evaluations. Realistically, my actual life didn’t turn out half bad, so the made up stuff is bound to be downright amazing! As a psychiatrist I’ve spent the better part of two decades studying the human condition. I love to wonder and ponder at what makes us tick, individually and collectively. Hopefully, this translates into characters that think, move and act like real people. As a father, mostly I’m stressed out half the time. The other half I’m filled with wonder at what my kids might become. And, on occasion, it means I can rope them into helping me write from their perspective or in a way that reaches them, as with the Tag Mattox series. As a veteran, I’ve had unique experiences and seen some of the extremes of human life. This comes with its own measure of pain. That’s not a great thing, but it certainly adds more options to the field of ‘write what you know’. As a husband, I get in trouble a lot. But I also get supported and encouraged a lot. The fact that this page and these few published books exist is a testament to that poor woman’s patience. If you pray, pray for her. We already covered that the bird watching is largely irrelevant. Go pick a book and start reading.
