Story
Weston King knows how to play. This was an auto-download for me
I loved Laurelin Paige’s last Audible Original (One More Time), so it was a no brainer for me to pick up her latest original, too. Plus Elena Wolfe and Jacob Morgan are two of my favorite voices in romance, so this quickly jumped to the top of my to-listen to list. Wes is an alpha in business and an alpha in bed, but in order to crush the competition he needs to put a ring on it…"it" being his sexy competition, Elizabeth. With wedding season fast approaching, who can resist a fake fiancé trope? Paige’s narrative flows so easily, and Wolfe and Morgan do what they do best (a.k.a. make you fall in love with them and the characters they portray) in this scorching love story.

Story
For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine—multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I've ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and hot, passionate up-against-the-wall sex as much as I do.

When baring it all is the only way to happiness
Lauren Blakely is just so good at writing witty, steely alpha males who have tender hearts waiting to be found, and multimillionaire Flynn doesn’t disappoint. Sebastian York’s gravelly baritone will wrap around you and add another level to Flynn that gets you falling for him even before he meets equally witty and sweet reporter Sabrina. Their meet-cute at a masquerade ball is full of steamy passion, which when narrated by Andi Arndt’s just-right breathiness is sure to command your full attention. Things get infinitely more complicated when the masks come off and they navigate a new world for the both of them, but the ride to see where it’ll all go is simply delightful.

Beautiful

A book nerd’s dream
In her debut novel, Julia Whelan has crafted a story that touches on the highs and lows of life, from the elation of falling in love to the sadness of loss. As an award-winning narrator, her narration of her own work is especially rich with a multitude of character voices and true-to-life expression through dialogue. Set at Oxford, a university so famous that those of us who’ve never even been to the UK have strong associations with the name (I think of rainy stone walkways and Harry Potter), it’s pretty much a book nerd’s dream. Ella, the American, meets Jamie, the quintessentially Oxfordian man who can recite poetry and show her the secrets of the university. It’s a blast, but it also delivers a few punches to the heart. In short, it’s a listen that has a little bit of everything, and I came away feeling full.

Story
The true story of a love affair between two extraordinary women becomes a literary tour de force in this novel that recreates the surrealist movement in Paris and the horrors of the two world wars with a singular incandescence. In the years preceding World War I, two young women meet, by chance, in a provincial town in France. Suzanne Malherbe, a shy 17-year-old with a talent for drawing, is completely entranced by the brilliant but troubled Lucie Schwob, who comes from a family of wealthy Jewish intellectuals. They embark on a clandestine love affair, terrified they will be discovered.

Art and love as an act of resistance
Treading a fine line between biography and historical fiction, Never Anyone but You reimagines the lives and love of Marcel Moore and Claude Cahun, androgynous names adopted by Suzanne Malherbe and Lucie Schwob. These artists involved with the surrealist and avant-garde movements of the early 20th century share a unique and complicated love story—particularly when their parents marry and they become step-siblings. Although unconventional, it proved a useful protection (albeit a bizarre twist of fate) during a time when homosexuality and ideas of non-conforming gender identities were not only frowned upon, but illegal. From their achievements in intellectual and artistic circles to their involvement in anti-Nazi resistance in German-occupied Paris and Jersey, it's about time that their story be heard, and their love and work celebrated.
