I've been
in a fugue state the past few weeks, running from meeting to meeting in a sleep-deprived haze. And it’s all totally worth it. We have a lot going on here at Audible. I may be memoir-obsessed, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love other listens, too. I’m beside-myself excited about the classic Baby-Sitters Club series that we’re bringing to audio for the first time ever this fall. (All 131 books on the same day!) I’ve been bingeing Heads Will Roll, the twisted medieval satire by Kate McKinnon and her sister Emily Lynne. And I’m pouring my heart into helping bring you guys a sob/laugh-fest of a memoir that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about disabilities. And I’m also squeezing in a moment to tell you about what’s new in the world of memoirs. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t forget about you. <3

Story
Part memoir, part comedy routine, part advice manual, Challenge Accepted! is Celeste at her best, revealing her secrets to love, friendship, family, and marriage (oh hai, #hothusband), and how to deal with life’s many challenges - why she checks the bath for sharks, how Nutella quite literally shaped who she is as a woman, and why being famous on Instagram is like being rich in Monopoly. It’s real, like totally, really real.

A mystery inside an enigma wrapped in a laugh
T-minus 12 days to Celeste Barber’s new memoir, Challenge Accepted!: 253 Steps to Becoming an Anti-It Girl. I love this memoir so much. Yes, it’s hilarious, because Celeste is hilarious, but oh man, she also digs pretty deep. Tears were shed, gasps were gasped. I recently got all fancied up and talked to her on camera about open heart surgery, mean girls, ADHD, and more.

Story
Five women revolutionize the modern art world in postwar America in this "gratifying, generous, and lush" true story from a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist (Jennifer Szalai, New York Times). Set amid the most turbulent social and political period of modern times, Ninth Street Women is the impassioned, wild, sometimes tragic, always exhilarating chronicle of five women who dared to enter the male-dominated world of 20th-century abstract painting - not as muses but as artists.

The women who changed the abstract art scene
OK, so not technically a memoir, but as a biography this definitely counts as memoir-adjacent! Ninth Street Women is about five incredible women who ruffled feathers when they entered the world of 20th century abstract painting as artists instead of muses. Now, Amy Sherman-Paladino (see: Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and her producing partner, husband Daniel Palladino, are bringing these revolutionary women to the screen. I’m looking forward to all the signature, quirky flourishes and downing this listen as fast as I can in the meantime.

Beloved around the world, Randy Travis has sold more than 25 million albums in both country and gospel genres and is considered one of the finest performers of his generation, admired by superstars across the musical landscape, from Garth Brooks to Mick Jagger. From a working-class background in North Carolina to a job as a cook and club singer in Nashville to his "overnight success" with his smash 1986 album Storms of Life - which launched the neotraditional movement in country music - Randy’s first three decades are a true rags-to-riches story.

When you want to feel some type of way
Hoo boy, I’m a sucker for a soul-searching music memoir. I’m on the record with my love for Patti Smith’s National Book Award-winning classic, Just Kids, and all signs point to Randy Travis’s upcoming memoir scratching that same itch. From his working-class upbringing in North Carolina to his overnight success with Storms of Life to his late-in-life divorce, alcohol abuse, and near-death experience, this one is poised to give me some feels.
