When I noticed
my lineup for this memoir newsletter was 100% women and secrets, I panicked for a hot second. But then I decided to lean into it. After polling my colleagues, Comedy Editor Aaron saidwomen and secrets is the jam,and Mysteries & Thrillers Editor Kat said
sounds very Scorpio & I love it!Did I poll them because I knew they’d tell me what I wanted to hear? Maybe. But these memoirs are also amazing, and chances are you’ll love them as much as I do.

Story
She was known to the world as Emily Doe when she stunned millions with a letter. Brock Turner had been sentenced to just six months in county jail after he was found sexually assaulting her on Stanford's campus. Her victim impact statement was posted on BuzzFeed, where it instantly went viral. Now, she reclaims her identity to tell her story of trauma, transcendence, and the power of words.

Consider all your editors stunned
Last week I was *completely* shook when Chanel Miller revealed her identity as the woman who was sexually assaulted by Stanford swimmer Brock Turner behind a dumpster in 2015. Turner was found guilty and sentenced to six months in prison, of which he served three before being released. If Chanel Miller’s riveting victim impact statement is any indication, her forthcoming memoir Know My Name—out September 24—promises to be a powerful account of reclaiming one’s identity after incomprehensible trauma. At the time of Brock Turner’s sentencing in 2016, her victim impact statement was delivered anonymously in the courtroom. But she isn’t anonymous anymore. Her name is Chanel Miller, and everyone’s about to know it.

Story
On a hot July night on Cape Cod when Adrienne was 14, her mother, Malabar, woke her at midnight with five simple words that would set the course of both of their lives for years to come: Ben Souther just kissed me. Adrienne instantly became her mother’s confidante and helpmate, blossoming in the sudden light of her attention, and from then on, Malabar came to rely on her daughter to help orchestrate what would become an epic affair with her husband’s closest friend.

Rich People Behaving Badly

Juicy
isn’t even the half of it
In the first few minutes of Adrienne Brodeur’s debut memoir, her mother starts a passionate affair with her husband’s closest friend and enlists her 14-year-old daughter as her main accomplice. Then, in the second half, things get *really* juicy. I loved this story—out next month—about a daughter who hopelessly loves a mother who crosses all boundaries 💔.

Story
High School is the revelatory and unique coming-of-age story of Sara and Tegan Quin, identical twins from Calgary, Alberta, who grew up at the height of grunge and rave culture in the '90s, well before they became the celebrated musicians and global LGBTQ icons we know today. While grappling with their identity and sexuality, often alone, they also faced academic meltdown, their parents’ divorce, and the looming pressure of what might come after high school. This is the origin story of Tegan and Sara.

Story
For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.
