We’re conditioned
to wait until January to make resolutions for the year ahead, but I’ve always been inspired to write up my list in the middle of December. In fact, most of my New Year’s resolutions have been written by the light of a Christmas tree, with cocoa and cookies by my side. Right now, I’m thinking back on big literary moments from 2018 (thanks to the film adaptation, The Hate U Give was deservedly everywhere!) and trying to figure out what bookish challenges to accept for the year to come. In other words, I’m making some To Be Listened To (TBLT) goals for 2019.P.S. If you’d like to share your own TBLT goals, I’d love to hear them! Best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about and advocates for survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published 20 years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless.

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

What if your favorite authors wrote together?
When What If It’s Us landed in my Audible library, I put everything on hold while I got to know the main characters, Arthur and Ben. Arthur is a believer in the good of the universe. Ben thinks the universe should back off, thankyouverymuch. And when their rom-com perfect meet-cute ends up being a missed connection, the universe intervenes. I had some feelings about it all, and luckily co-authors (and YA royalty) Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli were up for a spoiler-free chat.
