When Condé Nast offered Ruth Reichl the top position at America’s oldest epicurean magazine, she declined. She was a writer, not a manager, and had no inclination to be anyone’s boss. Yet Reichl had been reading Gourmet since she was eight; it had inspired her career. How could she say no? This is the story of a former Berkeley hippie entering the corporate world and worrying about losing her soul. It is the story of the moment restaurants became an important part of popular culture, a time when the rise of the farm-to-table movement changed, forever, the way we eat.

In a culture where sipping "rosé all day" is seen as the epitome of relaxation, "grabbing a drink" the only way to network; and meeting at a bar the quintessential "first date", many of us are left wondering if drinking alcohol really is the only way to cultivate joy and connection in life. Jardine Libaire and Amanda Eyre Ward wanted to live spontaneous and luxurious lives, to escape the ordinary and enjoy the intoxicating. Their drinking, however, had started to numb them to the present moment instead of unlocking it.

Resumen del Editor
Growing up in New York, Anais Alexandre was always known as a culinary prodigy and was certain she’d become one of the best chefs the world had ever known. But life dealt her a different hand, and she was unable to pursue her dream of attending culinary school after finishing high school. Now a beautiful, hip, and sexy 23-year-old newly minted social worker, she accepts a job in an emergency shelter for girls and continues to indulge in her passion for cooking by moonlighting as a romantic caterer. But at some point her two worlds begin to converge - her life becomes an amalgamation of unbelievably provocative and often erotically compromising encounters in both jobs on a regular basis.
Taking us from the eclectic cliffside manors hidden in clandestine enclaves that offer illuminating views of Pittsburgh’s picturesque three rivers to the sensuous sunsets of San Francisco Bay and the romantic elegance of Paris, Anais’ alluring and often erotic culinary adventures serve as a welcoming contrast to the breathtaking stories and immensely painful encounters she witnesses in the girls’ shelter. Sultry, funny, mysterious, and intimately stimulating, the alluring adventures and captivating cuisine will surely keep you hungry for more.

Historia
In 2007 chef Grant Achatz seemingly had it made. He had been named one of the best new chefs in America by Food & Wine in 2002, received the James Beard Foundation Rising Star Chef of the Year Award in 2003, and in 2005 he and Nick Kokonas opened the conceptually radical restaurant Alinea, which was named Best Restaurant in America by Gourmet magazine. Then, Achatz was diagnosed with stage IV squamous cell carcinoma - tongue cancer.

Historia
As a young girl, Jamie Cat Callan was fascinated by her French grandmother. Though she had little money, Jamie's grand-mère ate well, dressed well, and took joy in simple, everyday pleasures. As Jamie journeyed through France as an adult, she gained more insight into the differences between French and American women. French women - whether doctors, shop owners, or housewives - don't worry about being thin enough, young enough, or accomplished enough.

Historia
Firefighter Jackson Donovan doesn't look back as a rule. So when his past comes roaring back to life in the form of not-so-damsel-in-distress Becks Benning, the last thing he wants to do is relive old times. No matter how tempting she makes it seem. Now thanks to his two interfering brothers, Becks is living with them while she looks for a new place and tries to pick up the pieces of her tattoo business that went up in flames. Which means a grown up, smokin' hot Becks is in his house, sharing meals, and digging up old wounds.

Awful
This book was terrible, this book was all over the place, the narration was amateur at best, the storyline did not flow. Sex scenes were mediocre and rather bland, and there were too many missing pieces to each portion of the story. Very middle school-ish.
This book is not for an avid reader.
