Such a terrific erotic suspense romance

Ms Leigh penned another terrific book. This as with her others, has great emotional characters, hot, hot erotic love scenes. This ends this series and was a great reunion book with all those in Elite Ops on another mission & brought those from the Seal Team series in for a great celebration. Can’t wait to start the Brute Force series which will have many of the secondary characters from this series. Great narration job by Ms Knightly.

I want more!

If you could sum up Live Wire in three words, what would they be?

Romantic - Suspenseful - Great Characters

Any additional comments?

Love this series although the characters appear in several series. Please make the rest of the series of these Navy Seals available on Audible! I'm going through withdrawal symptoms!

Great Series in the Beginning-I REALLY Tried, But

What did you like best about Live Wire? What did you like least?

I HATE writing mixed or negative reviews as I have not the talent or bravery to write a book or put myself out there as so many authors do. That being said....

Wild Card and Maverick (Books 1 & 2 in Elite Ops Series) were dynamic, fantastic, magnificent and all the other positive ---ic's you can think of, but I found Live Wire (6 in the Series) lacking.

I do not know what it was or what combination made this boring, predictable, eye-rolling, repetitious, etc. There are several factors at play:

Perhaps it was the gap between listening to Book 2 and 6 (3-5 were not available at this writing)

Perhaps Lora Leigh was tired of writing this series or she was stretched thin as she released several books in different series at the same time.

Maybe it's me - there seemed to be no plot in this book-it was not gripping as her previous books. What little there was was lost in the continual, non creative erotic scenes. There seemed to be a lack of originality in the story and execution.

It felt like Lora Leigh was required a word count by the publisher and it didn't matter what the words were. For example, every exchange between the main characters included addressing one another by name-almost every other sentence.

Did I mention repetition? The hero says something, the heroine repeats it... it seems like lazy writing. Each intimate scene began with the hero/heroine fighting - knowing they should not be involved with one another, move into 'agonizing pleasure' then back to regret and knowledge they shouldn't be together. 2 or 3 times, o.k. but 7 hours in and the recipe does not change!

Did I mention repetition? (Ha, see that?) I could not count the number of times the reader/listener was treated to reminders of what brought the heroine to the situation she was currently in. This always makes me feel insulted-I'm not an idiot, I CAN remember what got us here for longer than 5 minutes without being reminded.

Did I mention repetition.... just kidding... sort of.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

This is a reaction to the book as a whole, NOT the ending.

Unfortunately, I'm disappointed with Jordan's story. As the leader of the team there was so much potential - we have only had glimpses thus far through the men he commands and the whole book left this reader unsatisfied. So, I'm glad this is the end of the Special Ops Series.

What three words best describe Clarissa Knightly’s performance?

I'll give you more than 3 words as I'm mixed about this [her overall work] as well.

Clarissa Knightly had a robotic performance. This did not keep me engaged. Perhaps she was bored with the material. Her dialog WAS distinguished between Jordan and Tehya. However, I REALLY couldn't get over how disinterested she seemed...arguments, quiet moments, historical perspective-it all sounded the same.

The one exception was the intimate/passion scenes, she did sound angry as she read these parts. Perhaps she was trying to portray the characters as written, but she just sounded mad, maybe she was as frustrated as me!

I enjoyed Clarissa Knightly's performance in Lora Leigh's Maverick, Wild Card & Secret Sins - also in Anything He Wants by Sarah Falkes. However, the other titles she narrates -almost exclusively LL are not great.

Any additional comments?

This may be a confusing review however, it is honest. Given the choice I would not purchase this book again.

Lora Leigh's books are hit or miss at best - I've read a bunch, The Callahan's Series and one or two from the Bound Hearts, Nauti, Men of August and the Elite Ops Series WAS the rose among the thorns in the garden. But this installment was a disappointment as outlined above.

I thought that some of the books by Lora Leigh were published as she 'cut her teeth' and earlier, poorly edited mistakes. However, as I looked at her bibliography I found the opposite.

It is almost as though she has discovered an outline for writing books and now inserts different names and places in the same 'formula' and turns out a "new" book.

I MAY give The SEAL Series a shot and I've no interest in The Breeds series (not a genre that interests me), so this is probably the last L. Leigh book purchase for me.

I'm not a prudish listener (see my reviews) but I need something in addition to all the 'mature' situations and language. There were a lot of F-bombs and descriptive, sexual situations.

This book seemed lazy and lacking in originality - even within the book... repetitive, but I already said that....

Wish the rest of the series was available

After listening to Wild Card and Maverick available on Audible, I waited for the rest of the Elite Ops series to become available on Audible for well over a year. I enjoyed the first 2 books a lot, and Clarissa Knightly did a great job narrating those books. The rest of the Elite Ops series didn't show up on Audible, but the other day I noticed Live Wire (the last book of the series) was now available. So I got it, but I am kind of ambivalent as to whether or not this was a good thing.

Lora Leigh tried to write this series (6 books) so they can be read as stand-alones by repeating a lot of details about relationships, previous story lines, etc., etc., in each successive book. This technique wasn't a problem with the first 2 books, but in Live Wire, using the repeat/review technique gets really confusing and annoying. It's a shame because it's really a good story, but because books 3 thru 5 aren't available in audiobook format, listening to Live Wire as a stand-alone is not a satisfying experience. In fact, it gets very confusing in places.

I was also somewhat disappointed with Clarissa Knightly's performance this time around, especially in the sex scenes. She reads the sex scenes in Live Wire (and there are a lot of them) like she's calling a horse race. In the other 2 books, she was appropriately passionate, but this time, she was just ridiculous.

The rest of the narrative of Live Wire was done well, but I got to the point where I had to fast forward through the sex scenes because they made me feel like I had to go place a bet.

Bottom line, if you can dial down the sex scenes in your own head and make sense of the many details and story lines woven in from the previous books, you will enjoy Live Wire.

disappointing

narration seems better suited to a historical romance. author seems to think the reader is either dim witted or has a really short memory, it is unnecessary to continually repeat things
