Acerca de esta escucha

Thanks to an elderly spinster sleuth and her ingenious cat, Christopher Holmes has enjoyed a celebrated career as a bestselling mystery writer. Until now. Sales are down and his new editor is allergic to geriatric gumshoes. On the advice of his agent, he reinvents his fortyish, frumpy, recently dumped self into the sleek, sexy image of a literary lion, and heads for a Northern California writers conference to try and resurrect his career. A career nearly as dead as the body he stumbles over in the woods. In a weirdly déjà vu replay of one of his own novels, he finds himself stranded in an isolated lodge full of frightened women?and not a lawman in sight. Except for J.X. Moriarity, former cop and bestselling novelist. The man with whom he shared a one-night stand - okay, maybe three - long ago. The man who wants to arrest him for murder. A ruthless, stalking killer, or a hot, handsome ex-lover. Which poses the greater danger? It's elementary, my dear Holmes!

I liked The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks better

What did you love best about Somebody Killed His Editor?

It's more about what I didn't like about the story...neither of the main characters. And when I don't fall in love with the MCs, I just end up not particularly liking the entire story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Somebody Killed His Editor?

First time Chris and JX made love in Chris' room. Explosive.

Have you listened to any of Kevin R. Free’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never heard him before. I'd rate him above average, but not spectacular like Shannon Gunn.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was difficult to finish.

Any additional comments?

I LOVE Josh Lanyon, but I am not fond of this series. Fatal Shadows (Adrien English Mysteries) is far better in my opinion, as is Fair Game and The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks.

I'd rate this book/story at 3-1/2 stars overall.

fantastic

What made the experience of listening to Somebody Killed His Editor the most enjoyable?

Kevin free was perfect for Kits " character and perfect story couldn't shut it off and was up all night finishing it! Mr free had tiny nuances in his voice that made it come alive in even minute ways. Really brought the story to "life"

What did you like best about this story?

The humor, good plot, great mystery ala Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle. characters were all so uniquely written and realistic. they truly came alive with each encounter in the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

Kit waking up to find JR there. in actuality were quite a few favorite moments.

If you could take any character from Somebody Killed His Editor out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I'd like to take Kit and Jr but Kit would prolly dislike the meal the place and his shoes perhaps! Kit is so snarky, and brilliant and a bit of a snob and comfort loving creature. Jr on other hand wouldn't mind a cold beer and a Chicago dog with condiments dribbling over his boots.

Any additional comments?

This series is entirely engaging, complex cases with all the clues followed by reader and yet like master wordsmiths I still am not sure til the last moment whom is the culprit. Characters are deep and evolving, They could be people you know... but also like true humans have the secret sides we don't know.
its humor and craft is fantastic. get the series in books and audible its that amazing.

Surprise

Would you try another book from Josh Lanyon and/or Kevin R. Free?

Probably not.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

This was a decent mystery story but there is absolutely no relation to Sherlock Holmes except the character names. I mistakenly expected more of a connection. I was also very surprised by some explicit homesexual sex descriptions. There should have been a warning in the product information.

Lukewarm semi-erotic fairly fun mystery

I really wanted to love this book, but while it kept me listening to the end, it was really just okay. The mystery was pretty typical and more than engaging enough, as was the flavor of the writer's conference and wry commentary on publishing. The characters were okay, but behaved a bit nonsensically, which detracted from the story. The erotic moments were well written, but hard to fit within the flow of the story and not well supported by the characters' behavior.

If you're driven by teasing out the mystery and don't mind waiting for some nice juicy bits, you'll like this book. If you trip over unlikely human behavior, you might want to skip this one.

I gave the reader three stars because his work on most of the characters was only so-so, but it bears mentioning that I loved the voice he gave to the main character, and I enjoyed the stubborn, self-deprecating, strident protagonist. He was familiar, human, and fun.

Absorbing and Riveting

The narrator did justice to Josh's wonderful story of murder, mystery and love lost. A wonderful puzzler that keeps you guessing until the very end. I just adored JX and Holmes. The snarky and magnetic pull they had for each other was priceless. I immediately purchased the other 2 audios in this story line I was so impressed with the performance.

Wry counterpart to Adrien English

The fact that this series covers some of the same ground as the Adrien English mysteries, and yet comes off as both completely different and equally lovable, is a tribute to the storytelling prowess of Josh Lanyon.

Christopher Holmes is a mystery writer who, yes, keeps getting caught up in bizarre murders through a mix of curiosity and very bad luck. But Holmes is just that bit more frantic and at odds with himself, and his uncertain connection with the sexier (and better-selling) J.X. Moriarity is both sweetly engaging and a lot of fun.

As with Adrien and Jake, the presence of J.X. serves to help Holmes understand himself, but the trip they take is a little stranger (though just as bloody). The very talented Kevin R. Free has a grand time conveying Holmes’s put-upon stream of consciousness and biting humor.
