His hand rested on the threshold where the window had slid open and he leaned in. "What's the trouble, officer... Michaels?" Dara asked, seeing his name tag in the gloom.
"License and registration, Miss," he instructed, his pen poised above a small notepad. He was all business, but his eyes had strayed to her lap, and she had to fight not to look and see what he was fussing about.
He swallowed as he straightened, and moved a little away from her car, A streetlight caught his face in a swath of light. Why, he was a baby, Dara thought, fresh out of I'm-an-Officer-Now, school.
