Historia
Peggy Serrano couldn’t wait for her best friend to come home from the war. But the Jimmy Barnett who returns is much different from the Jimmy who left, changed so drastically by his experience as a medic in Europe that he can barely function. When he attempts the unthinkable, his parents check him into the VA hospital. Peggy determines to help the Barnetts unravel what might have happened to send their son over the edge. She starts by contacting Jimmy’s war buddies, trying to identify the mysterious woman in the photo they find in Jimmy’s belongings.

Not just another war story...
Revisado: 01-16-24
I was captured by the storyline from the beginning since I could easily identify with Peggy. A good lesson in how God's love is always with us even in our darkest of times.

Historia
With an ailing mother to care for, Lisa Grant takes the first job she can find: research assistant to District Attorney Scott Buchanan. What Lisa expects to be a mind-numbingly boring task turns into anything but when a missing-persons case draws her attention. The details of the case are engrossing: an entire family — father, mother, and two children — disappeared without a trace more than 28 years ago. Except that’s not all: the mother in a photo Lisa finds could be her own twin.

Historia
At the turn of the 20th century, in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a reclusive orchardist, William Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots as if they were loved ones. A gentle man, he's found solace in the sweetness of the fruit he grows and the quiet, beating heart of the land he cultivates. One day, two teenage girls appear and steal his fruit from the market; they later return to the outskirts of his orchard to see the man who gave them no chase. Feral, scared, and very pregnant, the girls take up on Talmadge's land and indulge in his deep reservoir of compassion.

Heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time
Revisado: 08-31-14
What did you love best about The Orchardist?
I loved the way the author blended the life of each character into the orchard . . .
Who was your favorite character and why?
Della - she fought her entire life to overcome the disaster that was her childhood.
What does Mark Bramhall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The background descriptions - the landscape - the innards of the cabin
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Della refused to be a part of the prison escape - she could not accept that anyone cared enough to help HER.
Any additional comments?
I chose this book on a whim... so glad that I did - wonderful read/listen!!

Not Nora's best
Revisado: 06-20-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Book 1 was so juvenile and predictable that I did not even finish it and, though I had purchased books 2 and 3 in good faith as a Nora fan, I did not start either of them. I would not recommend this trilogy. . .
Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?
Yes, but I will preview much more carefully what it is that I am purchasing.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I was too disappointed the recognize them if they were there.
