Historia
Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. What she finds instead are visions of terrifying mutilated specters that come with increasing regularity.

This guy writes women really well!
Revisado: 07-17-24
I have not yet experienced menopause or peri menopause but, I have dealt with delights of menstrual hormones. I think this author does a great job of writing about Middle aged women and their often overlooked struggles.
I didn’t know this would be a book with any supernatural themes I was expecting a crime thriller. I am a horror fan and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more titles from Nat Cassidy.

Teen dreams
Revisado: 12-21-23
This was my favorite book through most of my teens. It informed most of my aesthetic and filled me with the knowledge that I was only one of many weirdos out there.
I downloaded it a fit of nostalgia and enjoyed it thoroughly. It had the bonus effect of dragging forth some old memories. It is high goth drama and can be a bit over the top at times but that only adds to its charm and how much it sang to me through my f**ked up teens.

Amazing women. Fantastic stories. Endless universes 🤩
Revisado: 07-13-22
I’m such a fan of this entire series and don’t ever worry about being disappointed.
The history and birth of the Dune universe is endlessly interesting to me. These two men have created such a captivating background to one of my all time favorite books.
I love the womens stories in Dune and the diverse and personalities and stories they have. Such well written and cool characters.
I don’t want to give any of it away. I’m listening to all the prequels in chronological order and am having so much fun doing so. Can recommend 10 out 10

Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.
With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

This meandering tale is full rich imagery and depictions of a gritty India.
The narrator is great and really adds to this already very entertaining story.
I was thoroughly satisfied....though could’ve happily listened to more had there been more.

Historia
In this poignant and disturbing memoir of lost innocence, coercion, survival, and healing, Dianne Lake chronicles her years with Charles Manson, revealing for the first time how she became the youngest member of his Family and offering new insights into one of the 20th century's most notorious criminals and life as one of his "girls". While much has been written about Charles Manson, this riveting account from an actual Family member is a chilling portrait that recreates in vivid detail one of the most horrifying chapters in modern American history.

So unblinkingly honest
Revisado: 06-23-18
If you have any interest in cults, counterculture, the swinging 60’s, communes, true crime and/or takes of redemption this book is for you. Well written staggeringly honest and bold. Dianne lake reads you her own story. Her narration can be a bit halting but you get used to it quickly. I’m very happy this book is out there and that I listened. I would highly recommend it !

Historia
In The Butchering Art, the historian Lindsey Fitzharris reveals the shocking world of 19th-century surgery on the eve of profound transformation. She conjures up early operating theaters - no place for the squeamish - and surgeons, working before anesthesia, who were lauded for their speed and brute strength. They were baffled by the persistent infections that kept mortality rates stubbornly high. A young, melancholy Quaker surgeon named Joseph Lister would solve the deadly riddle and change the course of history.

Well written engaging and educational. The narrator was the perfect match for this story. If you love historical books on science and or medicine the grumpiness of the 1800’s this book is for you.

Thus New York City, and the groundbreaking alienist Dr. Kreizler himself, are seen anew. It is June 1897. A year has passed since Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a pioneer in forensic psychiatry, tracked down the brutal serial killer John Beecham with the help of a team of trusted companions and a revolutionary application of the principles of his discipline.

So much fun
Revisado: 11-15-16
I loved this book and Pamela's reading is as fun and quirky as her writing. I even enjoyed her off key warbling. The only thing that became tedious was the endless epilogues and PS"s.
