Idiot protagonist!
Revisado: 01-17-23
This could have been a good story except for the 19th century social justice aristocrat. The language used was far too modern for the time period. For instance telling someone to ‘just level with her.’ Also this is a rather thin tome even though so many phrases are repeated over and over. Such as ‘she must get busy solving this crime if she wants to stay out of prison.’ Plus many references to her open mindedness and control when in the next sentence she is storming out or seething with anger! Not to mention how many times she ‘guesses’ incorrectly perhaps because she neither searches for evidence, interviews anyone or jumps to the wrong conclusion. Pretty much a time waster.

I love this series! But…
Revisado: 12-17-22
I’ve been a big fan of these books. I loved the sailing details and the geography. I also loved that the female protagonist carved the career she wanted out of a male- dominated profession. However, the heavy- handed feminist and male- hating in this book seriously put me off. Frankly, after the first incident, I fast forwarded through the rest. Men= bad, women= strong victims? Enough. I will consider buying the next but if it is more of the same I’m returning it.

Terribly flawed heroine
Revisado: 07-10-22
Freya Bloom is completely insufferable! I could care less about her “trauma” in her past, she is an unmitigated b*itch. The way she treats and challenges her supposed fellow workers is disgusting. So high and mighty. “I can’t live without culture, you farm and rural hicks!” Yuck. She ruins what could have been a good story. Why are male police officers depicted as bewitched by a pretty face when the chick’s behavior is so nasty. Good heavens! Won’t be reading anymore.

Should be a no go
Revisado: 06-25-22
I was really loving this book. It did not put one foot wrong. No idiot decisions made by smart people in order to move the plot forward which was refreshing. Until… the rape scene. I know Mr. McCallum you being all Hollywood and all but rape as the basis for a beautiful relationship is a no go. It ruined what was a tightly plotted tale with few dropped threads into a repulsive, middle-aged man’s wet dream. Disappointed!

As silly as the stilly isle on which it takes place!
Revisado: 02-10-22
From the discovery of the body,to searching the crime scene, removing evidence, telling just about everyone she knows all the details she discovered, to her adolescence hormones, this book was absurd. On top of all that, the murder was obvious from his first entrance on the scene. Unless you yourself are shallow, silly and adolescent, don’t bother with this. The narrator was wonderful and it is sad she had to read such drivel.

Absurd
Revisado: 12-17-21
This entire book is absurd! Why does female leads in this type of story have to be so unpleasant and obnoxious? I found myself rooting for her to get taken down a peg or two. I also wanted to advise Harry to run away and never stop!!

Heroine?
Revisado: 12-12-21
I couldn’t finish this book. The “heroine” was so flawed and damaged I wouldn’t have have let her near any police force in the world. Instead of going off to Scotland, she should have been sent to the nearest lockdown unit for others protection. Perhaps the author thought the reader would be intrigued by how this woman got to this point in her life but my thoughts kept wondering why this chick wasn’t incarcerated. Definitely not my cup of grog!!!

As improbable it is that a librarian would be part of any investigation regardless of her relationship with a detective, this is an okay read. I’m not sure the detective’s bondage proclivities add anything to the allure.
