In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need.

Start Slow But Finished Strong
Revisado: 02-24-23
I’ve been planning on getting around to this book for years, I finally bought it a month ago and dove in. The first few chapters were essentially a rehash of Extreme Ownership but then he goes far beyond and fills in a ton of specific scenarios that book left out. Great work as always.

The America we know today is so different in its fundamental views about almost every aspect of life as to be unrecognizable to our countrymen of two centuries ago. On issues as divergent as slavery, women's rights, education, the environment, and many others, we are simply no longer the country we were. What is the source of not only these changes, but of our distinctly American way of experiencing ourselves-confident in our value as individuals, certain of our ability to discover truths, self-reliant in the face of uncertainty and change?

A truly excellent series of lectures!
Revisado: 05-18-22
I’ve probably listened to over 50 Great Courses lectures over the years and I can say that this is in my top 5.
Throughout my life I’ve heard countless profound and inspiring quotes from Emerson and Thoreau but never studied them or their thinking in any kind of systematic way.
This series provided an excellent historical context in which to place the transcendentalists and also traced their contributions up to the present day. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to
Revisado: 04-02-22
I’m a huge fan of classical education and the liberal arts, I believe that the Great Books and enduring pieces of art have the power to transform lives.
I haven’t always been able to communicate to others exactly what I mean, it’s been frustrating. From now on I’ll refer folks to this book as the clearest illustration of the great power of literature, philosophy and drama to impact human beings in a profound way.
Also Adam driver was absolutely phenomenal. He’s one of the best I’ve ever heard.

Many academics attack the very idea of a Western canon as chauvinistic, while the general public increasingly doubts the value of the humanities. In Rescuing Socrates, Dominican-born American academic Roosevelt Montás tells the story of how a liberal education transformed his life, and offers an intimate account of the relevance of the Great Books today, especially to members of historically marginalized communities.

Outstanding. Should be required reading for all
Revisado: 12-20-21
This was an absolute pleasure to listen to from beginning to end, for a typical American with very little historical background outside of the US, it was extremely enlightening.
The Narrator is perfect and while the individuals sections can tend towards simplifying very complex history, in general it is very good.
The final section where the author describes how he fell for the conspiracies arising out of WW1 and saw the atrocities of WW2 is powerful and sobering. Everyone could benefit from listening to this book.

Beginning with a brief overview of the various goals and phases of feminism from the early 19th century onward, writer and feminist theorist Jennifer Baumgardner takes you on a tour of a tumultuous decade full of complex issues and contradictions through the lens of the feminist movement and the ways it shaped - and was shaped by - the closing years of the 20th century. From abortion rights to ‘zines, Feminism in the 1990s explores the ways third-wave feminism reacted to popular culture while simultaneously being co-opted by it.

Pretty much what I expected l, good overview of theory
Revisado: 04-15-21
I have had very little exposure to feminist thought and wanted to understand better the thinking that is influencing so much of this increasingly “woke” world. Baumgardner did a very good job of providing an overview of the 3 feminist “waves” and how they related to one another and evolved over time.

Historia
Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

He started out the lectures saying that the Bible is the most influential and also the least understood book of all. This seemed like a massive paradox to me when I heard it, but after these lectures I understand how right he was.
