Lisa was right people do like to hear about places they know. I visit the NW regularly and it was great to hear about all the cities and landmarks. The story was a wild ride. Great book for my trip to and from TRF.

Historia
During the early 1940’s in Idaho’s expansive Selway-Bitterroot wilderness, a few items disappeared from a tent camp, then from a lookout tower, and a ranger station. Eventually, the continuing loss of food and supplies at such isolated sites confirmed the presence of a mysterious stranger. For years no one saw him, even though he entered forest service quarters while employees slept.

Incredible book
Revisado: 06-17-24
Jonathan Rosen is an incredible writer. The ability of the writer to weave historical context of the mental health system’s history and a personal story together is fantastic. As a mental health professional it brought to words the intentions, reality, hope and disillusionment that leaves a wake of both support and harm. Masterfully done.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Historia
Keri Blakinger always lived life at full throttle. Growing up, that meant throwing herself into competitive figure skating with an all-consuming passion that led her to nationals. But when her skating career suddenly fell apart, that meant diving into self-destruction with the intensity she once saved for the ice. For the next nine years, Keri ricocheted from one dark place to the next: living on the streets, selling drugs and sex, and shooting up between classes all while trying to hold herself together enough to finish her degree at Cornell.

Wonderful read (listen)
Revisado: 02-05-23
This book is excellent! Written well, engaging and heart-wrenching. It is excited to hear her triumphs and her understanding of a system that set so many up to fail. I recently read Mathew Perry’s book on addiction felt devastated by the lack of awareness of his privilege and his self-centeredness. While these are different circumstances the connection is that when addiction rocks everything, people like Keri find ways to change the focus to others suffering, the broken systems and the taking the difficult road to speak up, step back and remind anyone who will listen to pleas for basic humanity.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Perspective
Revisado: 01-17-23
I am sure that contents of this book will be questioned thoroughly, but by the end I kept thinking his perspective is what matters as real more than anything. His book, his life, his reality. As a person who lost their mother at a young age the family dynamics resonated deeply. I kept thinking, I wish my dad or brother would read this, but just a quickly thought they didn’t get my perspective yet and doubtfully this would help them understand it anymore. So to Harry, Haz, H or HRH, thanks. I see you prospective so clearly and it might not have been your intent, but it was nice to think if we talked about family you might see mine too. The book is well worth the read if your open to the perspective that everyone is capable and deserving of happiness, sadness, grief and relief.
