Outdated book
Revisado: 07-23-24
This book is valuable if you're interested in history of anthropology or a snapshot of immediate postwar Japan. Other than that, it's horribly outdated and does little in explaining Japan of 2024.

Historia
The history of China is as rich and strange as that of any country on earth. Yet for many, China’s history remains unknown, or known only through the stylized images that generations in the West have cherished or reviled as truth. With his command of character and event - the product of 30 years of research and reflection in the field - Spence dispels those myths in a powerful narrative. Over four centuries of Chinese history, Spence fashions the astonishing story of the effort to achieve a modern China.

Classic for a reason
Revisado: 04-06-24
The narrator couldn't pronounce Chinese names & terms, which is a major drawback for a book this length. Other than that, one of the best surveys on modern China and possibly the best survey that's on audible.

Historia
In his gripping and provocative debut, anthropologist Jason De Leon sheds light on one of the most pressing political issues of our time - the human consequences of US immigration policy. The Land of Open Graves reveals the suffering and deaths that occur daily in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona as thousands of undocumented migrants attempt to cross the border from Mexico into the US.

Powerful, vivid, and unapologetic.

One of the best books I've listened to in a while. It answered questions I had when starting and opened pathways to new ones.
