The Narrator is Mad
Revisado: 09-03-18
There are many interpretations of this story, but Thompson's reading certainly supports the one that the governess-narrator is mad. Her increasingly frantic tone, and jarring emotional shifts reveal a mind that is loosing its grip on reality. It is an excellent performance, though it does impose a meaning onto the text that some listeners may not like.

Historia
The Metamorphoses by Publius Ovidius Naso (43 B.C. - A.D. 17) has, over the centuries, been the most popular and influential work from our classical tradition. This extraordinary collection of some 250 Greek and Roman myths and folk tales has always been a popular favorite, and has decisively shaped western art and literature from the moment it was completed in A.D. 8. The stories are particularly vivid when read by David Horovitch, in this new lively verse translation by Ian Johnston.

Great reading
Revisado: 05-13-18
There are several readings of this work to choose from on Audible, but this is the best one. Horovitch captures Ovid's tone and mood perfectly.

Needs a New Recording
Revisado: 03-10-18
Many reviewers have complained about Ralph's narration, but I think the problem is more with the recording than the narrator. The audio has a faded/muffled quality to it, like it was transferred from an older recording. I had to turn the volume almost to max to hear him. Audible should either refine the audio, or do a fresh recording.

This is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and Reynolds reading is the best. I think he is the best narrator of Lovecraft, and I wish there were more of H.P.'s stories read by him.

Good Collection & Narrator
Revisado: 10-07-17
This is one of the better horror anthologies I've read. It's definitely for fans of H.P. Lovecraft as the many of the stories presuppose you've read his work.
Taylor was a good narrator, and his werewolf voice in one of the stories was especially scary.
My only issue with this audiobook is that Nathan Ballingrud's introduction is not included. The description and icon both advertise it, so I was expecting it.

Good Retelling and Narration
Revisado: 07-30-17
This is my second time reading this great religious epic of India. Several years ago, I read Krishna Dharma's version, but I like this version by Egenes & Reddy better. The language is contemporary, yet lyrical, and the narrative is highly readable, yet maintains the profundity of its allegorical and spiritual meanings.
Gupta has a rich and melodious voice, although it can be monotonous at times. She could be more emotive, and create more distinction between different character's voices. But overall, I liked her narration.

Best Great Lecture Course So Far
Revisado: 07-18-17
Hardy’s knowledge of the texts and the history and traditions surrounding them is impressive, but what makes this course so enjoyable is Hardy’s infectious enthusiasm for the subject. He is the kind of teacher that effortlessly inspires his students because he is so sincere. In every lecture, he shares his favorite quotes or stories from a particular text, or how it affected him in some way. In one poignant anecdote, he relates how an essay on the book of Ruth convinced him and his wife to adopt a baby. In all my years in academia, I have never heard a professor share something so moving and personal. In the audio, you can hear him choking up as he talks about it.
Hardy has the greatest respect for the texts and the religions they belong to. As a scholar, he examines them critically, but unlike many modern academics, he does not ruthlessly deconstruct, demythologize, or discredit them; nor does he attempt to disabuse those who believe in them. Sadly, that is a rarity these days. He reminds me of my medieval studies professor from grad school, and I wish there were more professors like them. After taking this course, I not only want to read or reread all of the texts he lectured on (a library worth of books – LOL), but to read his books and listen to his other Great Courses series. And I will be listening to this again – it’s too rich to take in all at once.
Each lecture is a good balance of general and specific information so that they seem comprehensive without being overwhelming. By the end, you feel you can talk intelligently about the texts covered, even though you’ve only learned a little about them. For those who are interested in learning more, Grant provides ample recommendations for reading and research.
Without a doubt one of the best introductory college courses I’ve ever taken. I would love to attend it in person.

How familiar are you with the world's second-largest and fastest-growing religion? In these 12 lectures, Professor Esposito guides you through the facts and myths surrounding Islam and its more than 1.2 billion adherents. Many in the West know little about the faith and are familiar only with the actions of a minority of radical extremists, but this lecture series will help you better understand Islam's role as both a religion and a way of life, and its deep impact on world affairs both historically and today.

Revisado: 06-28-17
This course was too general and repetitive, and obviously targeted a people who have negative stereotypes of Muslims.
Prof. Esposito's lecturing was articulate, but he spoke a little too quickly. I did not like the "Masterpiece Theater" trumpet fanfare at the beginning of each lecture, or the fake applause at the beginning and end. It was unnecessary and pretentious.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Best Narration Ever!
Revisado: 03-30-17
My headline is no exaggeration - this is the absolute best reading of a novel I have ever heard. Joe Morton's range is incredible: this novel has a huge cast of characters, and he gives each one a distinctive voice and personality. The amount of accents and regional dialects he performs is impressive, and he does all of them flawlessly. But even had he read in his normal voice - or at least his normal professional voice - this still would be the best narration I've ever heard. He is a natural storyteller, and I think this will be the definitive reading of this classic. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Solid Narration
Revisado: 01-26-17
This is a decent chronicle of Gein's life and crimes, although written more like a crime thriller than a biography.
Bray's gruff, deep voice is appropriate for the macabre content, although he has a peculiar way of pronouncing some words (most notably "defendant" as "de-fen-DANT", with a strong emphasis on the last syllable).
