always a fun ride with this series
Revisado: 01-29-24
Loved this book series. Chance and friends are all well written, with a well paced plot. This one felt a little short, but that shows how much I enjoyed this. I'm ready to see where it goes from here and how strong he becomes.

Crowley has become one of my favorite characters
Revisado: 06-12-23
M.D. Massey character development is easily one of his strongest points as an author. He clearly plans each of them out with careful details. Crowley was likable as a villian, then became the likable "Friendmies," and after this, serise is a lovable anti-hero. I loved the short story where he became obsessed with Batman, and the character similarities are worth mentioning.
Belladonna is everything I wish modern Hollywood would base their female characters on. She is strong but not at the expense of the male characters around her. She is street smart and kind and also feminine. she is not afraid to show weakness to the person she cares for.
Steve Barnnet is amazing with his voice, and I try to go out of my way to listen to his other narrative

Apprentice mage Chance Fortunato just can’t catch a break. His training has gotten even harder, and his mentor, Dr. Corwin, is pushing him to take his mage trials early. Still, it beats his old gig working for a demon. But life takes a turn for the worse when a member of his girlfriend Shade’s werewolf pack is killed by a member of a rogue pack. Adding insult to grief, the pack is forced to let the Conclave send an observer to monitor their investigation.

Overall enjoyed the ride
Revisado: 05-25-23
I've loved this series so far, tho the first half of this book felt odd to me.
1. Chance feels like a different person for most of the book. him being a werewolf was a cool idea, but due to his past, I feel like he should have been stronger. Also, he talked to God's and Demons and has had to find how to draw magic in while most of his Chakra points damage on purpose by the demon. he should have found his wolf to understand it quicker than most. and realized he was being controlled.
Cool idea would have him being the first werewolf/mage due to his unique "half breed" books word heritage.
2. His friends felt side lined in this one. Most felt like they were distant and only there to help every once in a while whenever the plot forced them to be there. He has had four books that developed a compelling support structure of family, and not one of them could see what happened to him. It was just, "Oh well, you're a werewolf now, you're on your own.
3. it felt like it took too long for the book to find it counter agreement for the werewolf politics of Kane. It also felt like drawn out about halfway thru. His dialog, in particular, is just the same conversation over and over again.
In conclusion, I can't really tell you where it felt it got back on track, but by the end, I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next installment of this series on audible

!!!!! possible spoiler for this serise!!!!!
I enjoyed this series!! Characters are some of the best in urban fantasy. One of my only complaint if you can call it that. Is the main character Damon. he feels bi-polar at times and some time gets on my nerves, due to one minute being super capable and a idiot the next. but by the end I became quite found of him and enjoyed how honorable and loyal he became. the plot twist in the end was shocking and has me wanting more from him. but where this story really shines is the supporting cast of characters! I really loved Foster, and Zola. the Fury that both Foster and Damon have for the murderer in the first book really hooked me, and the drama with Cara giving her life for Damon got me emotionally connected to these characters. I already picked up the next series of audio books in this series tho I plan to let this ending simmer for a bit, and get my head around Damon being the side characters, and not being able to hear William Dufris anymore. he gave a fantastic performance and it was a gift to hear Zola, Mike, Frank and let's not forget graybeard performed

slightly spoilers ahead!!!! mixed feelings 😕
Revisado: 04-05-22
i liked the overall idea of the story, but has very juvenile writing! the characters are fun, but the Vampire powers are vague. And you cant really call them vampire there more like incubus/succubus. one thing that bothered me was Ash who was a damsel most of the story and seems odd for someone who been alive for centuries and clearly powerful seemingly the owner of the bar that the portal is attached to. another thing that doesn't make sense is the "vampire" are in a uneasy truce with the warlocks who are clearly more powerful then these so called vampire.
the passing was extremely odd, one minute its in middle of action scene then sex. if the author spent as much effort describing the action and other things going on as he does spending on the sex scenes this would have flowed better.
now for the narrator I enjoy most of his performance, the winded talking during fight scenes was a little annoying but liked the different voices he used for some of the characters. Talbot was my favorite characters and voice in the book.
with all my criticism of this book I will listen to the next book and probably finish the series of books due to I did think the characters where fun and would like to see where it's headed.
