Re-read as an audiobook
Revisado: 05-30-18
Three and a half stars. There.
The first time I read this book I gave it three stars.
My review at the time...
[ “I honestly thought this would be a four star rating.........
Some thoughts about it.
This book was kind of fun, even with the stupid (useless ) love triangle in it. The heroine is the kind of character you love to hate ( OR, hate to love? ).
To make things worse, someone died and passed his powers into her making her a freaking Paladin (great idea, lots of potential there).
But then, things start going downhill with the whole relationships / love triangle thing......'sigh'.
The book started fresh and full of possibilities , in my opinion , as I said before, it had great potential.......”]

Nice surprise
Revisado: 01-09-18
Warning: If you hate cliffhangers, don't start this book.
On the other hand, the other books are already out.....;)
I started the year with three fantasy books from Audible's sale, two of them I left to read/finish later (hopefully) because they bored me. So I was feeling kind of skeptical (sceptical?) about the third one, more so when the first chapters were a bit slow and somewhat predictable.
Well....I was in for a nice surprise.
Before you know, you're hooked! And want to finish the book to get all the answers to Calden (MC) and your questions.
Only one thing kept bothering me , for all the amazing and growing 'crafting' abilities of Calden, most of the time , he wasn't the brightest bulb in the box....you know? I don't know if this was part of the plot from Mitchell Hogan.
The narration was well done by Oliver Wyman.
Anyway, as I said earlier, I'm hooked and will continue the series. :)

To my taste
Revisado: 03-10-17
Excellent, as always, Lots of action, a bit of humor
I was a refreshing read after several PN books (the last few days ) with writing no to my taste (Am I polite, or what?) jeje.
The dual narration was excellent, I was very surprised because, well,I don't remember the last time that worked so well. Maybe it had to do with the fact that both were excellent. Kudos.
This book made want to reread the whole series again.

Two more books?
Revisado: 02-04-14
Beware of spoilers.....
Beware of spoilers.....
I wish the whole book was Adrian's POV, he's so funny and...human.
Okay, okay, Sydney was better this time around, but if she loves Adrian so much, her priorities are questionable to say the least.
This series is beginning to sound like some parts of the VA series,
when the main characters finally make love and soon after, one of them disappears . The next I expect will be the change (reeducating with the Alchemists) of Sydney, followed by her resistance due to her magic and finally.....well, let's wait and see what RM has for us in the final book.
Still, the book is well written, entertaining, sometimes funny and sweet. Everything, or most of the things I like in this kind of series.
I will definitely finish the series (two more books?).

Four stars it is...
Revisado: 02-04-14
I already committed part of my reading time this year to the series (as part of my series challenge).
That said...
This one was well written I must say, The world building, the set up, all those flowery descriptions about everything and everyone.
Even when said descriptions were in the middle of an action scene or between a question and its answer.....
Going for the second in the series.

Better than the last one.
Revisado: 03-20-13
This book was better than the last one......at least, the second part was.
First half of the book.......Three stars.
Second half of the book...Four and a half stars (getting to five there).
Overall...........Four stars.
However..
The issues that I had with Cinder, were there. For example, the simplistic and not very bright characters. Don't misunderstand me! They're still likeable and I thought Cinder was much better this time around , Scarlet was a strong character but a bit predictable.
I did enjoy the book and was entertained by it, so I'll wait for the next one. ;)

A bit of a disappointment
Revisado: 03-13-13
Not as good as Variant, a bit of a disappointment but still entertaining.
It was fast paced and more action packed than Variant but with exasperating results.
The characters felt like they were NOT the brightest crayons in the box, all of them, the humans, the androids.... even *spoiler alert* the alien. (Whaat?!? ,,,,,yep.). The ending felt rushed. like RW (or the publisher) needed a number of pages done and when he reached that number, that was it.

First, I bought the Kindle version...
Revisado: 03-07-13
This book was a nice surprise. It was unexpected and refreshing!
It was rather late when I began the sample from Kindle. By the time I was done with it, I had to buy the book that instant. No choice! LOL! I was up reading it until 4 AM....still felt rather short, I wanted more! This was a very good read. I couldn't put it down!
Let's talk about Penryn...this is a heroine that I like. And I rarely do like the story's heroine, I might like the book and/or love the series, but I always find that the female character lacks on this or that department. In my opinion Penryn is a strong character and a likable one.
The world Susan Ee created is compelling, her characters are sympathetic and real. I fear I am not doing this book justice, but please pick it up and see for yourself. I'm sure you will enjoy every action packed page as I did. This was one of those books that you actually feel a loss when it ends. I'm already looking forward to the next book.
I can see a re-read in the near future..
