Historia
In the year 937, the new king of England, a grandson of Alfred the Great, readies himself to go to war in the north. His dream of a united kingdom of all England will stand or fall on one field - on the passage of a single day. At his side is the priest Dunstan of Glastonbury, full of ambition and wit (perhaps enough to damn his soul). His talents will take him from the villages of Wessex to the royal court, to the hills of Rome - from exile to exaltation.

Another superb tale of English history
Revisado: 09-04-24
I loved Iggulden’s excellent War of the Roses series and The Abbot’s Tale did not disappoint. The author, like Bernard Cornwell, is particularly good at making history interesting and very accessible. The narrator does an excellent job and is perfect for this story. Highly recommended.

Superb Story!
Revisado: 08-11-24
As you listen to the story, which seems to have completely disconnected sections, you may wonder where all of this is going. But don’t give up because the author has constructed an amazing novel.

This is a different and very enjoyable historical novel. The author enables the reader or listener to get a good understanding of what it was like to be a woman in New Jersey in 1914.

I loved Parry’s previous books. This is a good fantasy, but it should have been a YA novel. It’s a bit too juvenile in story and tone

A spellbinding storyteller, historian David O. Stewart traces the canny and charismatic Aaron Burr from the threshold of the presidency in 1800 to his duel with Alexander Hamilton. Stewart recounts Burr’s efforts to carve out an empire, taking listeners across the American West as the renegade vice president schemes with foreign ambassadors, the U.S. general-in-chief, and future presidents.

Well done history and biography
Revisado: 09-07-23
Having read Gore Vidal’s Burr, I wanted to learn the true story of these men. The author presents a fair and even handed evaluation of Burr, Jefferson, Wilkinson and the other main participants in the historical events that comprise this book. It’s a fascinating tale of early America and the development of the United States . Burr was a bright and ambitious man who should have continued to enjoy a fruitful political career, but who was brought down by the duel with Hamilton and the hatred of Jefferson. Highly recommended.

Not bad
Revisado: 03-29-23
The author did well providing the historical details to make the time period come alive, But the main character is a bit of a dunderhead and it’s frustrating to listen to him making mistake after mistake. His success depends more on luck than good sense. The Ursula Blanchard series by Fiona Buckley is superior to this series. Ursula is a much more effective assistant spy to Wiliiam Cecil
