Historia
Jane Dorner has two modes: PR Jane, twenty-five, chummy, and eager to sell you a feminist vibrator or a self-care/bereavement subscription box; and Actual Jane, twenty-nine, drifting through mediocre workdays and lackluster dates while paralyzed by her crushing mountain of overdue medical bills. When her job performance is called into question, Jane’s last-ditch effort to preserve her livelihood and pay off her debt is to land a white whale of a client. Enter Cass and Tom—proprietors of a “wellness retreat” based out of a ramshackle country house that may or may not be giving off cult vibes.

Well written and hilarious. The author skillfully roasts the wellness industry. I was thoroughly entertained throughout. The narrator was also excellent.

The writing is good, the narrators are superb, and the story is interesting, though a bit far out. Still, a great listen.

Historia
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Is she paid by the word? I got so tired of the endless descriptions of mundane details. Finally, the convoluted “twist” is revealed. I feel dumb for listening to the whole thing.

Melanie Hale is a devoted mother to her two children, a diligent caregiver to her ailing mother-in-law and a trusted neighbor in their wealthy Louisiana community. Suddenly she's transformed into a role she doesn't recognize—a woman who deceives with unseemly ease.

Predictable
Revisado: 01-24-22
The story is familiar, and the protagonist has no redeeming qualities. The writing is mediocre at best. The narrator is ok but the characters kind of sound as if they’re always on the verge of tears. I would have returned it but I have exceeded my limit on returns.

Historia
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-31-21
I loved the first novel in the series. This one kept me entertained for about the first half, and then the author increasingly focused on the least likable character, a brutish pig of a loser who hates everyone, especially women. Crude and irredeemable. I don’t get it. What a turn off.

When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Historia
Once Donald Trump’s fiercest surrogate, closest confidant, and staunchest defender, Michael Cohen knows where the skeletons are buried. This is the most devastating business and political horror story of the century. As Trump’s lawyer and “fixer”, Cohen not only witnessed firsthand but was also an active participant in the inner workings of Trump’s business empire, political campaign, and presidential administration.

Historia
In an idyllic Los Angeles neighborhood, where generations enjoy deep roots in old homes, the O’Rourke family fits right in. Miriam and Craig are both artists and their four children carry on the legacy. When their teenage son, Nick, is diagnosed with schizophrenia, a tumultuous decade ensues in which the family careens off the conventional course. Like the 10 Biblical plagues, they are hit by one catastrophe after another: violence, evictions, arrests, a suicide attempt, a near-drowning - even cancer and a brain tumor - play against the backdrop of a wild teenage bacchanal.

Beautiful account of a mother's painful journey
Revisado: 08-10-20
I was struck by the honesty of the author's struggle to understand and accept her son's mental illness. It's so difficult to let go of what we envision our kids' lives will be, and so much more so when they are lost to us. I think Feldman captured the devastation, panic, exhaustion, all of it, so movingly. In her case, additional trauma pushed her to the breaking point. Still, there is humor and self-deprecation in her account. Just a very successful effort.

Paxton never thought he’d be working for Cloud, the giant tech company that’s eaten much of the American economy. Much less that he’d be moving into one of the company’s sprawling live-work facilities. But compared to what’s left outside, Cloud’s bland chainstore life of gleaming entertainment halls, open-plan offices, and vast warehouses...well, it doesn’t seem so bad. It’s more than anyone else is offering.

Interesting but needed editing
Revisado: 09-10-19
It was an intriguing and timely concept and for the most part the author pulled it off. But the writing in some places is amateurish, in particular, the repeated misuse of the word “like” in place of “as if” or “as though.” (Hundreds of times.) That is just sloppy. It made me wonder if there was an editor for this book and if so, whether the editor knows correct grammar. On top of It, when the author attempted to use an actual simile, they seemed strained and fell flat. The narrator was excellent.
