Historia
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil. Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring.

Very mixed feelings
Revisado: 01-29-23
Beautifully performed, but I hated almost all of the characters. Especially, the weak men. Misogynistic book, lots of marital rape, and child abuse.

Historia
It's not safe for anyone alone in the woods. There are predators that come out at night: critters and coyotes, snakes and wolves. But the woman in the red jacket has no choice. Not since the Crisis came, decimated the population, and sent those who survived fleeing into quarantine camps that serve as breeding grounds for death, destruction, and disease. She is just a woman trying not to get killed in a world that doesn't look anything like the one she grew up in, the one that was perfectly sane and normal and boring until three months ago.

I still have questions! What happened to DJ? Did Red actually make it to her Gma?

Historia
Command Assassin Nykyrian Quikiades once turned his back on the League—and has been hunted by them ever since. Though many have tried, none can kill him or stop him from completing his current mission: to protect Kiara Zamir, a woman whose father's political alliance has made her a target. As her world becomes even deadlier, Kiara must entrust her life to the same kind of beast who once killed her mother and left her for dead. Old enemies and new threaten them both and the only way they can survive is to overcome their suspicions and learn to trust in the very ones who threaten them the most.

Endless Pity Party
Revisado: 02-27-18
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Every single character in this book feels sorry for themselves. It reads like an endless pity party. The main heroine spends a lot of time crying despite the assertion that she rarely cries...This is proven false given that at one point she cries in three of four consecutive scenes. One of the characters tries to justify murder because of their terrible past, genuinely believing that they didn't have a choice in the matter...No. You don't get to excuse the terrible choices you make as an adult because of a bad childhood. You put your big boy pants on, deal with the situation and move on with your life. You don't dwell in the past. Above all you don't commit terrible acts then believe that you should be excused because of your past...No. I HATE this kind of perpetual victim mentality. One of the characters gets angry at the main heroine for judging these actions claiming that she's a sanctimonious bitch for being horrified at the murders committed. Also, no. You get judged on your actions and your decisions, fuck off.
In conclusion UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Has Born of Night turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I still love the genre. I was just disappointed in the characters.
Was Born of Night worth the listening time?
No, I'm going to avoid this series in the future.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Sad
Revisado: 10-13-15
It's a story which takes place during "the war" so don't expect anything uplifting. Good story, characters are well developed and grows/ devolve as the story goes on. Exposes the harsh realities of war and war-time Europe as well as life in general. Excellent narration! German and French were accurate.

Annoying narration, good story
Revisado: 10-13-15
I found the narration annoying but enjoyed the audiobook overall. If you're a fan of the other books then you'll enjoy this one too. On a side note I actually like Roland and still (7 books in) don't understand why he needs to die...Kinda takes something away when the mortal enemy hasn't really done anything wrong. So far it's been a lot of talk about how evil he is but no show. This series seems to have a theme per book (racism, Indian culture...). The theme of this book was Arabian culture and folk legends.
