Historia
Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status...and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader.

Excellent! Read this book!
Revisado: 11-02-24
A must read for right now. This brave man has a story. It may also help some readers to understand more about Arabic speaking and writing styles (they use a lot of imperatives and rhetoric that may sound puzzling if you're not use to it) to tell the story. Please read!

Historia
Meet Sam Dodsworth, an amiable 50-year-old millionaire and "American Captain of Industry, believing in the Republican Party, high tariffs, and, so long as they did not annoy him personally, in Prohibition and the Episcopal Church". Dodsworth runs an auto manufacturing firm, but his beautiful wife, Fran, obsessed with the notion that she is growing old, persuades him to sell his interest in the company and take her to Europe.

Great Book!
Revisado: 11-02-24
Good performance of a great book. Also fun to compare with the screenplay, if you're familiar with the brilliant 1936 movie that was based on both the novel and the play. It proves that all three can be both excellent and different from each other.

Historia
In this sardonic portrait of the up-and-coming middle class during the prosperous 1920s, Sinclair Lewis perfectly captures the sound, the feel, and the attitudes of the generation that created the cult of consumerism. With a sharp eye for detail and keen powers of observation, Lewis tracks successful realtor George Babbitt's daily struggles to rise to the top of his profession while maintaining his reputation as an upstanding family man.

It's Okay
Revisado: 11-02-24
The actor reads well in the narrative passages but the dialogue voices are annoying: He plays his Babbitt to sound like the Cookie Monster, for some reason. The women all sound silly. The book is good and is an invaluable look into early 1920s middle America, but I didn't like it nearly as much as Dodsworth.

Historia
Who was the real Diana? What was it like to be so privileged yet so anguished, so beloved yet so self-loathing, so spoiled yet so despairing? The Princess of Wales was all these things--far more complicated, conflicted, and intriguing a person than the wildly disparate saint or lunatic she is frequently portrayed to be.

Absolutely Fascinating
Revisado: 09-23-23
This book must be read by anyone interested in Diana. Or interested in how to write a popular biography. Or interested in writing well. The only criticism I have is that she doesn't include an epilogue on the Martin Bashir scandal. It doesn't exonerate Diana, but it certainly explains some of her behavior at the time. There is no pandering to the sentimental view of the Princess. She was a real person and Lady C presents her as one. This is indeed a fair, informed account of the real Diana and her story.

Historia
In the first in-depth biography of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall - the infamous other woman who made the marriage of Britain's Prince Charles and Princess Diana "a bit crowded" - esteemed royal biographer Penny Junor tells the unlikely and extraordinary story of the woman reviled as a pariah who, thanks to numerous twists of fate, became the popular princess consort.

Too much full repetition of narrative from the public domain we've already heard many many times. Feels like they're there to take up space. But Camilla's story is interesting.

Historia
Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups. Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Give It A Chance -- This Is Not A Polemic
Revisado: 04-07-22
Well researched and argued. I know the author has met with severe sanctioning. It's worth thinking about why this is and Shrier's book will assist with explanation. Read it. Listen to it. It's only a well crafted, well researched, thoughtful and reasonable discussion on a critical issue.. Have enough faith in your own reasoning to give it a chance.
Narrator's voice is a bit annoying but it's okay.
