Sometimes less is more
Revisado: 12-20-22
I love the topic but I couldn’t tell if many of the player quotes were archived interviews or recorded intentionally for this series. It’s a little heavily produced with the sound effects too. I would really just prefer the great story without all the bells and whistles.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Interesting but lacking
Revisado: 09-18-22
I feel bad for the author because he admits he spent 20 years on the subject without finding that smoking gun. It speaks well that he avoids the slippery slop of conspiracy theory. Sadly it couldn’t come to a conclusion because of all the barriers put up by others. Really different angles on the Manson murders kept me coming back.

We want to know more about Snoke - I would be a little disappointed if it was only Gallius Rax, he should be something ancient. Can't wait for the next film, but this'll do for now. The sound effects readings are always a little weird but that's always been Star Wars audiobooks. The Snap voice sounds a lot like Futurama's Fry.

Apprehensive about it at first but loved it
Revisado: 09-17-16
I was apprehensive when I saw the words "unauthorized" and "uncensored " because I've read things like that, that end up being crap, but these guys are authentic and knowledgeable. A pretty evenhanded telling in my opinion. I kind of wish dates were attributed with the quotes (maybe they are in the print version?) Can't wait for the sequel!

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

Nice story but not well sourced on historical details
Revisado: 02-16-16
It's a fun read, but DNA evidence of Blue Jacket's descendants confirmed that he was not white. Most conversations in this read are pure speculation or legends. If this sparks an interest in the reader for history, that's great. As historical fiction, it has a good narrative flow. The writer was very familiar with the period and major events throughout Kentucky and the Old Northwest. But to start with the words "this is a true story", it should not take such liberty with other people's thoughts and words. Use dialogue from people's letters, reports, and diaries. Good history books are well sourced and able to stand up to scrutiny.

Here is one of the great autobiographies of the English language - exuberant, wonderfully contemporary in spirit, by a man twice as large as life who—he said so himself—had no trouble remembering everything that had ever happened to him and a lot of things besides.

Heartbreaking and introspective
Revisado: 12-09-15
It was interesting peeking inside this great mind. He was upfront about his business failings and you understand why he wanted a century to make sure everyone was long dead when he told the whole story. The losses in his life were painful to read. Very insightful.

Historia
Meredith Mason Brown traces Daniel Boone's life from his Pennsylvania childhood to his experiences in the militia and his rise as an unexcelled woodsman, explorer, and backcountry leader. In the process, we meet the authentic Boone: he didn't wear coonskin caps; he read and wrote better than many frontiersmen; he was not the first to settle Kentucky; he took no pleasure in killing Indians. At once a loner and a leader, a Quaker who became a skilled frontier fighter, Boone is a study in contradictions.

Good history- robotic reading
Revisado: 07-29-15
I like the traditional "challenge what you knew about this character" story, but if you told me it was read by a robot I would have believed you. While words were clear, there was almost no inflection or change in tone throughout the book.
