Historia
From its debut in 1962, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was a wild success and a cultural lightning rod. The play transpires over one long, boozy night, laying bare the lies, compromises, and scalding love that have sustained a middle-aged couple through decades of marriage. It scandalized critics but magnetized audiences. Across 644 sold-out Broadway performances, the drama demolished the wall between what could and couldn’t be said on the American stage and marked a definitive end to the I Love Lucy 1950s.

Narrator makes this unlistenable for me
Revisado: 03-25-24
I need to return this title and get the printed copy. I like the writing so far but the narrators unnecessary emphasis and unnatural cadence is grating on me beyond my tolerance level.

Tackling some of humanity’s oldest questions along with new quandaries only he could imagine, these stories will change the way you think, feel, and see the world. They are Ted Chiang at his best: profound, sympathetic, revelatory. Ted Chiang tackles some of humanity’s oldest questions along with new quandaries only he could imagine.

Thought provoking, smart stories

All of these stories were quite different. All were enjoyable and made me consider many fascinating new ideas. I hope the author comes out with another collection soon!

NOT POLITICAL! Great time travel mystery.
Revisado: 10-14-22
Ignore any negative reviews saying this book is political. There is literally one brief statement by one character that is disparaging to the former guy and it is accompanied by a disparaging statement by the same character about the current guy. So just 10 seconds out of a 10 hour book made some snowflakes leave a one star review. Nothing else remotely political in the rest of the story I promise you.
Most lovers of mysteries and time travel will enjoy this book, I should think. The narrator was excellent.

In How Propaganda Works, Jason Stanley demonstrates that more attention needs to be paid. He examines how propaganda operates subtly, how it undermines democracy - particularly the ideals of democratic deliberation and equality - and how it has damaged democracies of the past.

This is a philosophical treatise, title and cover are misleading.
Revisado: 04-02-21
I expected a book for a popular audience which delved into the details of propaganda. Unfortunately this book is not that, though it may be fantastic for an audience of professional philosophers.

Historia
In Compromised, Strzok draws on lessons from a long career - from his role in the Russian illegals case that inspired The Americans to his service as lead FBI agent on the Mueller investigation - to construct a devastating account of foreign influence at the highest levels of our government. And he grapples with a question that should concern every U.S. citizen: When a president appears to favor personal and Russian interests over those of our nation, has he become a national security threat?

An important and sobering work
Revisado: 09-13-20
Peter Strzok comes across as an honest and dedicated lifelong public servant who was and continues to be a scapegoat for the most corrupt administration in American history. Hearing his story in his own words reminded me how very lucky we are to have patriots like him working in federal law enforcement and throughout all areas of public service. If our republic somehow survives it will be thanks to people like Strzok.

Historia
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Stop feeling bad about being introverted!
Revisado: 02-14-12
Susan Cain informs us that one in three people are introverts and helps us understand that that's ok. Those with "inner directed" personalities have much to offer (indeed, have made some of the biggest contributions to human culture), and are able to experience the world in ways that extroverts are simply not wired to do. Cain also shows how being an introvert may put one at a disadvantage professionally and socially, but offers hope that such disadvantages can be overcome or even turned on their head when the traits of introversion are turned into an advantage. Quiet, reserve, thoughtfulness, and patience can bring balance and depth to relationships and advantage in negotiations.
My partner and I both saw ourselves in the portrait of introversion Cain expertly paints for the reader. We highly recommend this book to all introverts and to anyone who wants to understand this style of being.
