Great story - so-so narration

Great story with a quirky, unpredictable character. The plot was feasible with plenty of actions and twists to keep me listening. I’ve quit listening to several books lately because I got bored, so for me to finish this in such a short time frame is a huge compliment in itself.
The narrator, however, almost ruined it for me. She has a great sounding voice but her flat inflections were like listening to a school marm read. I like narration to show a little emotion. Too much and it’s overdone. Too little and it calls attention to itself and pulls the listener out of the story from time to time.

Great Series

I bought this book at a reduced rate. I figured if it wasn’t very good, and I only read about half of it, I wasn’t out much money. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was captivated from the first chapter and quickly listened to the last.
Right after writing this review, I’ll be buying the next book in the series and most likely all the books after that.
Enticing plot. Quirky compelling characters. Great narrator.

I wasn’t sure if I’d like an “in the hood” based book. I LOVED this book. I loved the narrator. He has a rich slightly raspy voice that is easy and entertaining to listen to.
The story line alternated between past and present and the POV was 3rd person (most of the time) and omniscient. I usually don’t care for either of those features either, but Ide handled it masterfully within a storyline so compelling that I was hook and carried away.
Don’t miss reading or listening to this book.

Great stories, marvelous characters

This is an excellent series. The two main characters are women and their not normal for the times relationship is refreshing. Their bantering back-and-forth, as best friends do, make the storyline fun to read. They have a backstory together that is revealed bit by bit throughout the books. This and the great storylines draw the reader in and makes you want to keep reading. The mysteries solved in each book are intriguing and not so easy to figure out. I plan I'm getting every single one of these books.
